Introduction
With anything, no matter how much you love something, sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated. It’s the same with wrestling, it may be your passion, but sometimes your passion can wear thin.
Staying motivated for training
It’s difficult staying motivated, especially as a big part of wrestling training (at least with my trainer at the PROJO) was perfection. It may become monotonous having to go through drills again and again, but it’s necessary. As they say, practice makes perfect! A fun way to stay motivated when running through drills is to challenge yourself. Managed to slam one guy in your class? Slam the next biggest guy!
Another way to keep motivated is tracking your progress (pun intended). For example, if you keep a journal during your training and note down your strengths and weaknesses, over time you’ll be seeing an improvement, which is always great!
Staying motivated about wrestling
With there being a whole bunch of wrestling out there, on top of training to wrestle, one easily get’s wrestling fatigue. Sometimes it’s good to step back from the wrestling and take a break. I for one have stopped watching wrestling religiously and now enjoy pay-per-views much more! I don’t mean to say quit on wrestling, I simply mean scale it back a little, WWE alone have 7 hours of programming a week!
With the wrestling training becoming an increasingly larger part of life for myself, for enjoyment as well as a way to become fitter, I’ve watched less wrestling and am enjoying it more than ever.
Conclusion
This was a short topic to cover, but it’s extremely important. Wrestling training is very draining and painful is putting it lightly. No matter how much you love something it will always become a slog sometimes, it’s important to remember why you’re doing that thing in the first place.
When the going get’s tough, I just think about two things. I’m going through what one of my biggest role models in life (The Rock) did. That always keeps me going. Secondly, there are hundreds of people out there dreaming of being a wrestler but not doing (or being able to do) anything about it. The mere fact I’m trying, even if unsuccessful, puts me in an amazing minority. And well, that alone allows me to STAY HYPED!
