WWE Roadblock was a mini-PPV, a WWE Network special originating in Toronto Canada. It was made to drum up more developments that lead to Wrestlemania. An earlier article of the Rasslin Roundup depicted predictions of what was going to occur. Let’s take a look back at the real results and recap.
The New Day’s Kofi and Big E regained their tag team titles and solidified their role as a turning babyface tag team. They are over and entertaining, and promoting a new cereal (a t-shirt inside) of Booty-O’s. The New Day despite their panache and humorous tendencies defeated League of Nation members Wade Barrett and Sheamus to regain their titles in the opening bout.
In other matches, Chris Jericho did not host a Highlight Reel and instead defeated Jack Swagger with a rundown of AJ Styles in a promo, further drumming up their budding feud (and with Jericho as a full heel). Jack Swagger, is he really a credible opponent? Competitive match and showing, yes; but did we really expect Swagger? Swagger is hardly on TV, much less as a featured star, or opponent of the caliber (of Jericho’s.) So this maneuver was a surprise and using Swagger (a guy Jericho can beat) and how does it make Jericho look stronger by beating an opponent who realistically didnt have the aura to upset Jericho?
Natalya earned and netted her way to a Divas Title match, but in a losing effort. Charlotte like her Dad, used cheap heat and good heat with the foot on the ropes tactic to garner a successful title defense. Sami Zayn, boosting the Canadian flavor defeated Stardust in singles competition.
Other contests in the best match of the night was Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson defending and regaining their NXT tag titles over Big Cass and Enzo Amore. In a handicap match, despite the earlier billing; it was Luke Harper who lost to Brock Lesnar and went to “Suplex City.” The initial rumor and reports is that WWE is saving the Wyatt and Lesnar official showdown for after Mania; and segue Brock-Bray after the Ambrose-Lesnar feud. How they will do this and properly “prop” and ready both opponents for Lesnar respectively and make a convincing effort remains to be seen.
The Main Event featured a game (pun intended) Dean Ambrose really reach the next plateau and was elevated on this night, despite losing to world champion, Triple H. Triple H would win and retain his WWE Title; and await Roman Reigns as the feature bout at Wrestlemania.
