The Rope Runner – WrestlerWatch: Taylor Essex

In the past few years, there has been some sort of boom in British wrestling as they have been showcasing their talent all over the world and being recognised by the leading Promotions across the globe. At the figurehead of this revolution are the likes of Neville, Drew McIntyre, Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Will Ospreay. There are many more British wrestlers making waves all over the UK, putting on stellar performances night in, night out. One of whom being current RFPW and Dropkixx champion Taylor Essex. I recently sat down with him to get to know Taylor in a Q&A style Interview

What is your wrestling style?
My wrestling style is high-flying, but I can work technical if need be

How long have you been wrestling for?
I have been wrestling for 2 years in February so just over 1 and a half years

At what age did you start watching wrestling?
I started wrestling when I was 9, stopped when I was 12 and started again when I was around 15

Who was your wrestling growing up?
I always loved Jeff Hardy growing up but as I got older I really started to appreciate how good Edge was.
What is your favourite ever match?
I have 2 favourite matches, I loved HBK vs undertake at Wrestlemania 25 and TLC 2 with Edge and Christian, The Dudley Boyz and The Hardys.
What is your favourite match you’ve had?
This is a hard one as I have enjoyed working with a lot of people so I have 3 for 3 different reasons. The first one was with Paul Robinson (Swords of Essex) As it was the biggest name I have worked and that match was the first time I was ever truly proud of my match. The second match was with Ray Pantera because we went into that match never having worked together before and it was the best match I have ever had. The third was one I had with Jack Toreno purely because we just clicked and was showing what we can do in the future.
Who is your dream opponent? In WWE and on the independent scene.
In WWE AJ Styles and on the independent scene Will Ospreay.
What is the best advice anyone has given you?
The best advice I have had was to remember that if the crowd isn’t invested in the match, it doesn’t what you do out there.
Do you have any advice for anything wanting to start wrestling?
Go for it, but put 100% in, you won’t get anywhere by just wanting it, you need to listen and learn and work hard because it won’t happen overnight, it will take time.
At such a young age, the 20-year old will only get better with experience and it’s scary to think how good he will be in the coming years. It’s only a matter of time until we see Taylor Essex in the likes of Progress and ICW. Definitely, one to watch.
