SLTD Predicts – U.S Championship – Styles vs Owens

Once again Team SLTD have gotten together to give our thoughts on who we think will come out victorious at Summer Slam in the United States Championship Match. Will the ‘The Phenomenal One’ retain, or will the ‘Face of America’ regain what he thinks is his gold?

We all give our thoughts below, let us know in the comments below who you think will win

At Summerslam, we have another match in the series of matches that we have been having for the United States Title between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens. These two men have been trading this title back and forth for the past couple of months a bad penny. Now, we have the added stipulation of Shane McMahon as special referee. Now, I don’t have to tell you Shane’s track record as a referee… He’s been known to be less than impartial. With Owens’ current gimmick of being the Champion of the United States, I easily see him winning back his title. Could he get a little help from the Commissioner of the Smackdown brand? I wouldn’t completely rule this out, but my money is definitely on an Owens win.

AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens can potentially steal the show on any Pay Per View. Throw into the equation Shane McMahon and you have an interesting match to sit back and watch. I honestly am happy that they’ve put this onto a main PPV show such as SummerSlam, its worth of it.

As for the match itself, logically speaking I think Owens should be going over. Styles could make anyone look good in a match, so with a wrestler as talented as Owens, they could easily put on a 5 star match. It doesn’t make sense for Owens to lose either – he’s got too much invested in this match. Thankfully AJ has been built up as the face of SmackDown, so the loss won’t hurt him. What I’m (even more?) excited for in this match is the crazy antics of Shane McMahon. I honestly think that he will have a LARGE part to play in the match. He wouldn’t be involved if it were to be normal referee’ing duties. Quite how he is going to dive off a ladder or off the Titantron I’ve no idea.

Here’s hoping to a match that is one of the main reasons why I’ll be staying up to watch SummerSlam and not watching Game of Thrones.

In truth, I had lost interest in this feud. I felt as a fan the decision to change the title at a non televised house show to be a slap in the face to anyone invested in this programme, as well as being robbed of the chance to see AJ Styles’ first U.S Title victory. I pretty much washed my hands of it then, and didn’t really care that it has changed hands a couple of times since then either. However, something happened. Shane McMahon (with a little encouragement from Daniel Bryan) announced himself as the special guest referee for the 1 on 1 match between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens at SummerSlam.
What interests me about this, is the fact that a special guest referee at a PPV almost always plays a part in either the match itself, or the aftermath. History tells us something’s going down.
I have a feeling WWE are building towards a Kevin Owens v Shane McMahon match somewhere down the line, and I personally would welcome it. Maybe SummerSlam results in Owens shoving Shane, who then retaliates, allowing Styles to capitalise and ultimately costing KO the match.

To be honest, I’m not too hot on this feud. I fee it had a lot of potential, but something went wrong. I’ve a feeling a lower level writer was given this and thought some screwy finishes would build tension. Then when they saw that wasn’t working, Kevin ‘I hate NXT’ Dunn though Shane would be a good idea.

However my feeling is AJ is going to go over in this match, after Owens and Shane have a confrontation, leading to a feud between those two.

In my opinion it’s not a great idea because having Old Man Shane O’Mac go toe to toe with one of your top superstars is degrading. However WWE see him as a big draw, so I guess that’s what we’re stuck with…

For me Kevin Owens doesn’t work as a mid card champ as he treats it as that. Previous mid card Champions have treated the championships as good as the main one, Cena and The Miz being the best examples of this and that’s what these championships need to keep them relevant and to me Owens ruins all of this! So for me Styles needs to retain as he treats the championship with respect which is what you want! I don’t think Styles has had a good enough run as being the champion as Owens seems to have gotten in the way and the “hot potato” with it doesn’t really work.
There has been a lot of teasing that Shane is going to get involved but if I’m being honest I don’t think he will, he may get a little bump and potentially bump back but I think whoever wins this needs to do so clean so that this feud can finish and will hopefully be with Styles as the champ!

@Tybo_SLTD (Tybo Talks)
When this feud was announced I was really excited to see these two wrestle each other, but by this point I have seen them wrestle so often I have no idea what they are going to do to make this match feel special. I think this is the main issue with all of the feuds in WWE right now to be honest.

I think the addition of Shane O’Mac will add something but not enough. I just hope that the bulk of the match isn’t about Styles and Owens trying to dodge Shane, like they have been for the last few weeks. There is a small part of me that thinks Shane could turn heel and screw AJ out of the win, but with the impending return of Steph to Raw and the fact that she is no doubt going to be a heel I think that could be ‘Heel GM’ overkill. I’m really hoping whatever happens they pull something off in this match to make it interesting. As for a winner, I think Owens could take it to get Styles back in the WWE Championship picture.

That’s what Team SLTD thinks, but who do you think will walk out of Summer Slam with the U.S Championship?
