#TeamSLTD Discuss – D-Generation X [Hall of Fame 2019] (@stoughe | @callumowen98 | @TyboTalks | @xterblack)

It’s officially SLTD Mania Month, and you know what that means. Once again Team SLTD have gotten together to give our thoughts on this year’s Hall of Fame inductee’s D-Generation X.

We all give our thoughts below, let us know in the comments below what you think of one of this year’s inductee’s!

So, are you ready?

@Stoughe (The Wrestling Guild)
I don’t think that there is any secret that when wrestling was at its peak factions were the thing. Factions were not something new when groups like NWO and Nation of Domination burst onto the scene and changed the wrestling landscape forever, spawning the LWO the BWO and the Job Squad.

One of the most prominent and recognizable of the trail blazed by The Four Horsemen. Degeneration X is easily the most recognizable faction, mostly because of their longevity and ability to stay relevant. Their strength was the core group of Micheals, Hunter and Chyna blending humour and viciousness with raw sexuality and crudeness.

They avoided the pitfalls the NWO fell into and never became dull, even strengthening the group with the New Age Outlaws and X-Pac. As the number of wrestlers that deserve to be in the WWE HOF is dwindling it is obvious that a group of this calibre is the next step. DX was one of the main staples of the Attitude Era and deserve this spot, one might question if they deserve it now or if NWO should have gone in first, but if this is how Chyna enters I am all for it.

The first inductees of the 2019 Hall Of Fame are DeGeneration X, one of the biggest factions in the Attitude Era, and one of the biggest reasons why WWE defeated WCW during the Monday Night War. The group consisted of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, New Age Outlaws Bad Ass Billy Gunn, Road Dogg Jesse James, X-PAC and The Ninth Wonder Of The World Chyna.

The rebellious DX would feud with the Nation of Domination, The Hart Foundation and be involved in feuds with the likes of Mr McMahon, Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Cactus Jack and Terry Funk. I think my favourite DX segment was when Shawn, Triple H and Chyna did a press conference style announcement with several profanities.

All members brought something different to the group and have all left a lasting impression on the history of WWF/WWE, but none more so than Chyna, she made her debut by attacking Marlena who was the manager of Goldust who Triple H was feuding at that time. Chyna was a revolutionary to the women’s division and it’s a great shame she’s no longer alive to accept her place in the Hall Of Fame and see how much she meant to every wrestling fan.

Shawn Michaels and Triple H became two of the biggest stars of not just the attitude era, but also in the entire wrestling industry, and now Triple H is running NXT preparing the future of wrestling and developing the next generation.

I’m not sure if I’m a fan of these ‘group inductions’ Sure, Shawn Michaels deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame about a million times over and it gives Triple H the opportunity to be referred to as a ‘Hall Of Famer’ on TV before we get his grandiose induction that will surely come AFTER his retirement from the ring but do X-Pac, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg deserve to be in there too?

The group (and the concept of it) was groundbreaking – acting as the catalyst to the Attitude Era – but does the collective contribution of the aforementioned three warrant an induction? Chyna’s induction is a given and, to jump on the bandwagon, should have come much sooner & been an individual selection but I struggle to see how the former 1-2-3 Kid should be in there.

Maybe it’s me and a lack of appreciation/knowledge of their work but it seems a little thin to me. I would say, however, that the New Age Outlaws should be going in under that moniker and not in the bigger umbrella of DX (especially if Koko B. Ware managed it!) but I’m assuming there’s some political reasoning behind all of these choices.

@TyboTalks (Tybo Talks)
If ever there was a faction that defined an era, it would be D-Generation X defining the attitude era. I think it’s safe to say that the pairing of Triple H and Shawn Michaels ushered in the new edgier content that eventually won the ‘Monday Night Wars’

I the DX I remember the most is the second incarnation of the team, with Triple H at the helm, flanked by X-Pac, The New Age Outlaws and Chyna. This to me is when DX was at its best. Every Monday night was a party when DX was around, it’s was a fun and interesting era made better by the comedy of the group.

Personally, I think each individual member of the faction could go into the Hall of Fame alone. Michaels is already in, Triple H could have his own class, the Outlaws and X-Pac could easily go in and of course the trailblazer that is ‘the 9th Wonder of the World’ Chyna could and rightly should be in the Hall of Fame.

What are your thoughts on D-Generation X being inducted into the Hall of Fame? Do they deserve it? Let us know in the comments below, or tweet us @SLTDWresting.
