Hello and welcome to SLTD Predicts: Extreme Rules, I hope you are all doing well, and are looking forward to Sunday night’s PPV, today we have The Wrestling Brain and Mr. Mouthing Off sharing their thoughts. So, let’s not waste anymore time and let’s head into our first match as Liv Morgan takes on Carmella.
Liv Morgan vs Carmella
TWB: It feels like this feud has gone on forever, Morgan and Carmella have been having matches on Smackdown pretty much since the start of the summer, so there’s not much for me to really sink my teeth into.
I have to go with Liv here, she’s got momentum and really behind Bianca Belair she’s the next face on the roster and probably should be challenging Becky Lynch in the upcoming months.
Winner – Liv Morgan
MO: I can’t believe this is a match on a pay-per-view card, because I’ve seen it like 5 times since June. The story is very stupid and has Vince McMahon written all over it. Carmella thinks she’s “the most beautiful person in all of WWE” and they spent weeks of her just posing and taking pictures while Liv Morgan looked on in disgust. That’s stupid, and nobody cares about that, we care about people like Liv getting opportunities that they’ve worked for and this feels like a step back from everything she’s done in her time.
They do the WWE stuff they’ve done like four times already this year where Carmella bailed on a match for getting hit in the nose, that’s stupid, and it’s not entertaining at all. Then Liv loses to Zelina two days before the pay-per-view…what? So the person with the momentum and the match on the PPV loses to someone who’s literally doing nothing?
Liv is winning on Sunday and if she doesn’t all of this was for nothing and hopefully this is over right after that match ends and we move on, the draft is next Friday, it’s time for Liv to break out of this BS.
Winner: Liv Morgan
The Usos (C) vs Street Profits
Smackdown Tag Team Championship
TWB: With title matches that feature The Usos and Roman Reigns I feel the safe bet is always to go with The Bloodline, they’re the most dominant thing on Smackdown and feel must see.
The Street Profits have exceeded my expectations on the main roster, I liked them on NXT but I never felt they’d be a top tag team on Raw or Smackdown. I’m not entirely sure what comes next for Ford and Dawkins if they lose on Sunday night, perhaps they switch back over to Raw? I always find it difficult with tag teams who aren’t the champions as it feels that unless they’re in the title picture there isn’t a lot for them, and it begins to get stale quickly when they’re facing the same people week in week out. Personally, I’d unify the belts and make the division exclusive to one brand, but that article can be saved for another day.
It has to be The Usos for the win here, as long as Reigns retains so do the rest of The Bloodline.
Winners – The Usos
MO: This has been built horribly, like most championship feuds in WWE, it was built off the back of The Bloodline stuff which is great but, The Street Profits did nothing to get this opportunity except being the only other babyface team on the Smackdown roster which is just ridiculous.
Before this feud The Street Profits were losing (a lot) to Otis, not even to Otis and Gable, just to Otis. So I’m supposed to believe they deserve tag title shots off of that just because they beat the champions by DQ? That’s dumb. You’re beating your champions as a way to earn a title match making it very hard to care about the champion and the challenger because nobody cares about losers facing losers and that’s what happens all the time.
I think The Usos are going to retain here and The Street Profits will be heading to RAW to keep them away from The Usos for a while.
Winner: The Usos
Charlotte Flair (C) vs Alexa Bliss
Raw Women’s Championship
TWB: I’m very perturbed that this match could end up being goofy, which is a shame as both Alexa and Charlotte are good wrestlers, but it may be more based around a doll rather than what’s happening in a ring.
I always predict that Charlotte will win, mainly to annoy Adam and Ty on the SLTD Roundtable Podcast (available wherever you get your podcast), but also it feels reminiscent to around a decade or so ago when John Cena was winning on PPV at sometimes at the expense of someone like a Wade Barrett, and it’s just almost an inevitability that she’s going to retain.
That being said though I can picture Bliss winning because of shenanigans, as once again Charlotte rarely loses clean, so some sort of convoluted finish which sees Alexa crowned champion is very much something I can picture.
Winner – Alexa Bliss
MO: The promos here have actually been very good, I’ve enjoyed this getting personal and this actually being interesting. Alexa has stepped up her aggression in the ring and that’s what I’ve loved about this character. Her giving Charlotte her own Lily and calling it Charley, is not good, and I think they know it’s not good, Alexa and Charlotte definitely know and that’s why the personal promos have worked and that didn’t.
The problem is and remains the person that needs to know it’s bad doesn’t and that’s Vince McMahon. Based on the way Charlotte has been booked in the past 5 years, it’s very clear what is going on here. Charlotte has short reigns for no reason just to get her to 17 total reigns. That trend is going to continue here, because Alexa is winning, the problem with that is nobody cares about Charlotte getting 17 reigns but it’s inevitable.
Alexa does best with what she is given, the Lily stuff doesn’t work, but it sells dolls of course so it will continue. So does any of this really matter? We all know the answer, no it doesn’t at all.
Winner: Alexa Bliss
Damian Priest (C) vs Sheamus vs Jeff Hardy
United States Championship
TWB: I’m really happy Jeff got added to make this a Triple Threat, we’ve see Priest vs Sheamus on a few occasions now, so by bringing in Hardy freshens things up a bit, and anytime we the “Charismatic Enigma” it still feels special.
I sense that this will be the last we see of Sheamus on the Raw side of things, him moving to Smackdown will feel different and maybe him and Cesaro can once again reform The Bar to feud with The Usos.
Damian Priest has had a stellar 8 months on the main roster, and even though the first few saw him feuding with Miz and Morrison, once that rivalry ended he’s been treated and booked as a big deal and his run as US Champion really could elevate him to the World Title picture.
Considering we’re only a month or so into “The Archer Of Infamy” reign, I’m taking Priest here to retain and maybe we see him vs AJ Styles very soon.
Winner – Damian Priest
MO: The fact this isn’t Priest versus Drew McIntyre is beyond ridiculous to me. They put Drew and Sheamus in a triple threat on RAW with Priest for the title, where Sheamus gets beaten by Priest for like the fourth time. Then give Sheamus another opportunity by beating Drew…what?
So instead of Drew getting a title shot on his own, Sheamus gets his third rematch…what? Then out of nowhere for no reason at all, Jeff Hardy beats Sheamus. So in turn that puts Jeff Hardy in this match, which is (again) beyond ridiculous and guess who doesn’t have a match on this show? Drew McIntyre, again…what? Damian Priest needs to win this match and move on from Sheamus forever, hopefully away from him in the draft.
Winner – Damian Priest
Becky Lynch (C) vs Bianca Belair
Smackdown Women’s Championship
TWB: It’s so cool seeing Becky Lynch back, and at the same time it’s impossible to boo her, this is a women who practically became the biggest star in WWE in a space of a few weeks, she left to become a mum at the height of her career and returned to a monster pop at SummerSlam.
I almost think Bianca would make the better heel in this rivalry, she’s already complaining that she wasn’t ready for Lynch at SummerSlam and seemingly making excuses, plus with the points I’ve already made about Becky, the fans aren’t going to give Belair all the support on Sunday night.
I foresee Becky winning in a very competitive match and could possibly be on par with Reigns/Balor in terms of quality.
Winner – Becky Lynch
MO: This has been an interesting feud, now by all accounts we all didn’t like what happened at Summerslam because it diminished what Bianca did as champion in just 27 seconds. Becky won and it’s not her fault that Bianca couldn’t get the job done, then out of nowhere Bianca, the babyface, started complaining about losing the belt. In her hometown she has a homecoming hosted by Knox County Mayor Glenn (Kane) Jacobs and Becky came out to celebrate with her and Bianca, again for clarity, the babyface, instigated the fight and got what she deserved, a beating.
Then Bianca continued complaining about losing the belt, something a babyface doesn’t do, so guess who isn’t wrong here, Becky Lynch. Does this make Bianca look like a babyface, no it doesn’t and it’s very clear to me who’s winning this match because of it, and it’s not Bianca Belair. Becky is going to retain, and that will bring back Sasha Banks and Bianca will of course get another title shot this time in a triple threat and probably win it back there or end up on Raw to inevitably feud with Charlotte.
Winner: Becky Lynch
MO: For what it’s worth l can see Belair moving to Raw in the upcoming draft, and tangling with Charlotte Flair with the Raw Women’s Championship on the line perhaps at WrestleMania.
Roman Reigns (C) vs “The Demon” Finn Balor
Universal Championship
TWB: This has a big fight feel to it, “The Tribal Chief” vs “The Demon” is a match our very own Adam has been wanting to see for months now, and the inclusion of the Extreme Rules stipulation adds even more excitement to it.
Roman’s title reign now has spanned over 13 months, which is a ludicrous achievement in modern day WWE and quite honestly I’d be fine with it continuing for another 13 months, every match and feud he’s had has felt memorable and it he’s been able to elevate whoever he’s stepped in the ring with.
Finn Balor is a big deal once again now he’s back from NXT, as it did feel for a while that he was treading water of sorts and wasn’t being booked at the level that he should’ve been, the return of “The Demon” will be special considering we’ve not seen it for well over 2 years now, but I don’t think it’ll be enough to topple the “Head of The Table”
It’s already been confirmed that at Crown Jewel that it will be Lesnar vs Reigns, and I’m almost convinced that it will be for the Universal Championship, there’s no chance that Brock will go to Saudi Arabia for just a singles match, the title will be on the line, and based on that reason alone, Roman retains.
Winner – Roman Reigns
MO: Think about this, you announce a championship match with Brock Lesnar two weeks after this show, before another championship match on this PPV. Why book yourself into a corner like that you ask? That’s what WWE does best. They gave away the result of this match, by announcing another one ahead of time.
So no, “The Demon” doesn’t stand a chance at winning here. It was going to happen eventually, “The Demon” has never lost on the main roster, and that time has come. This doesn’t matter, they did it to waste time to get to Saudi Arabia because we needed another Roman versus Brock match for the blood money. That’s annoying and Finn Balor doesn’t deserve that. He deserves to be treated like the top star that he is, and he isn’t getting any younger, he’s 40.
The only person who knows how much time he has left is himself but the time he does have right now, needs to stop being wasted on throw away matches like this one. Will the match be good sure, but will it matter, probably not because The Demon will lose for no reason just to get to another pointless Brock match and it will help absolutely nobody.
Winner: Roman Reigns
