Is the future Yes or No?
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon displayed some of his own “Ruthless Aggression” on Monday, when the popular Brian Gewirtz (head writer for Raw) was demoted to a consultancy role. In what looked to be a statement of intent by Mr McMahon, he’s publicly stated he wants “results or resignations” from his writing team. The move to replace Gewirtz as Raw’s head writer with Dave Kapoor (aka Runjin Singh – Khali’s “brother”) was a major shock backstage in WWE and there is a lot of fear within the company about more job losses. It’s clear that, now more than ever, it’s time for WWE Creative to deliver.
Another development in WWE is the major push for Ryback, who as we all know is a possible number 1 contender for CM Punk’s WWE Championship at the upcoming PPV. It’s been noted in the past that Ryback is a big favourite of Vince McMahon, but the main reason for Ryback’s push towards a potential main event title match is, of course, due to the health of John Cena. Going by the reactions that Ryback has been getting lately at WWE events, his inclusion might be just as popular as Cena’s.
Will Cena miss the PPV?
A lot of non-Cena fans have stated on social media that they are bored of the Cenation leader hogging the spotlight and PPV main events, but can the company really afford to leave him out of Hell in a Cell? Cena’s elbow injury is very real. We’ve all seen the post-surgery photos that John posted on Twitter, but there’s no doubt that John Cena is the biggest star in WWE. He’s been the most important superstar for a few years now, but at the Royal Rumble the electrifying mega-star known as The Rock, will take centre stage in the WWE Title match.
The big question is who will The Rock face? Will it be current Champion CM Punk, who began his heel turn against the Great One on the 1000th episode, or will he face John Cena, the man that he beat in perhaps the biggest match ever at last year’s Wrestlemania? The expected and predicted match is Rock Vs Cena II, but there’s a chance that we could see a big swerve and have CM Punk vs The Rock for the WWE Title at WM29. Personally, I think the way to top Cena and Rock last year is to have a rematch, with The Rock defending the WWE Championship against John Cena.
In regards to the upcoming PPV, I’d like to see John Cena fight CM Punk in the cell, but if Cena isn’t 100%, then I’d be happy to see Ryback take his place. It might just be a bigger match to have Punk vs Cena at Survivor Series, marking Punk’s year-long reign as champion. Hopefully, we’ll find out this Monday Night, if this storyline will “feed us more!”
Smackdown
There’s only really two big storylines right now on Friday nights. The first sees the World Champion Sheamus going to Hell in a Cell against The Big Show (who incidentally has been playing a babyface on Raw house shows in the absence of John Cena). I’ll admit to being a little surprised that Show was placed in this title match. Being slightly biased, I’d have put Wade Barrett in there as I’m big a fan of his and I really enjoyed his match with Sheamus on Raw this week.
The other main storyline is Alberto Del Rio battling with the Viper Randy Orton, who’s currently filming 12 Rounds Reloaded. This has the potential to be a great storyline, with Randy’s intensity and Del Rio’s new-found aggression. I’m sure we all hope this feud will bring out the best in both guys.
I want to end this article by giving a shout out to Jerry “The King” Lawler, who is continuing to recover from the serious heart attack he had a couple of weeks ago. Get well soon King. We can’t wait to see you back at the announce table, doing what you do best.
Thank you
