SummerSlam 2015 – Why it really could be the hottest event of the Summer

Ladies and gentleman my name is Callum Owen, AKA The Wrestling Brain and today I will be discussing the potential SummerSlam card for 2015.

SummerSlam comes to the Barclays Centre in New York on Sunday 23rd of August, this will be the first of its kind in several years that hasn’t taken place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. In many people’s eyes, SummerSlam is the second biggest PPV behind Wrestlemania, so expect WWE to pull off many great matches and multiple shocks.

However, one shock I see happening will begin at Battleground as Triple H will screw Seth Rollins and reveal Sheamus as The Authority’s plan B as he cashes in on Seth Rollins. This will lead to a Triple H vs Seth Rollins match at SummerSlam.

Other matches I can see taking place on August 23rd are ; Sheamus vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title, a fourth instalment between Kevin Owens vs John Cena, Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt, Charlotte vs Paige vs Nikki Bella for the Divas title, Dean Ambrose vs Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler and Lana vs Rusev and Summer Rae, Ryback vs Miz vs Big Show vs King Barrett vs R truth vs Neville and finally The Prime Time Players vs The New Day vs The Lucha Dragons.

Triple H vs Seth Rollins

This match has been heavily rumoured for a few months now, The Architect of The Shield vs The Kings of Kings. As previously stated I can see Triple H turning on Seth Rollins at Battleground, as he mentioned on Raw, “a smart man always has a plan B” . Triple H is obviously a smart man, so if Rollins fails at Battleground, Sheamus will be waiting to cash in. However, if Rollins miraculously wins, how about a sign of respect from Lesnar and a handshake between the two competitors, only for Kane to chokeslam Rollins, and for Sheamus to run down and cash in on the wounded champion.

This sets up a Rollins face turn, with him leaving The Authority to feud with Triple H. Even expect Lesnar and Rollins to work together as they take down Kane, Sheamus, J&J Security and Triple H on Raw leading up to Summerslam. Perhaps Triple H removes the Pedigree from Rollins’ artillery, meaning the Curb Stomp could return, or Seth introduces a new finisher. Whatever happens, if this match takes place, Seth must win. Then the Authority must beat Rollins down to end SummerSlam and continue the feud.

Sheamus vs Lesnar (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

As previously mentioned Sheamus will cash in on Rollins at Battleground, whilst Rollins is busy battling Triple H. Brock will battle the Celtic Warrior in the co – main event of SummerSlam. Despite it not sounding the best of co – main events in the event’s history, any match with Brock Lesnar is always excitable. Brock will lose his third PPV match in a row, as a part-time champion is not what WWE need for the second year running. Sheamus will enter a feud with, I truly hope, a fellow Irishman, Finn Balor over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions and Hell in a Cell.

Kevin Owens vs John Cena (US Title)

At SummerSlam the 4th instalment between Kevin Owens and John Cena will take place, for the US Title that John Cena retains at Battleground. However to make a best out of 5 series Kevin Owens wins to ensure a final match at Night of Champions.

Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt

I can’t see this being a one-match feud, plain and simple this will be another feud that finishes at Night of Champions, as Bray Wyatt defeats Roman Reigns at Battleground with a distraction, perhaps some help from Roman Reigns’ daughter? Reigns will face Wyatt again at SummerSlam with Reigns winning and then he will defeat Wyatt again at Night of Champions.

Charlotte vs Paige vs Nikki Bella (Divas Title match)

Please WWE put the title on someone who can actually wrestle, put the title on either Charlotte or Paige, Nikki would have had her long 9 month spell as the Divas champion. Expect Charlotte to debut at Battleground as she tags with Paige vs. the Bella Twins in a winning effort, then this triple threat match takes place at SummerSlam with either Paige or Charlotte winning. Then let the Bella Twins have their time jobbing like divas have done for them over the last 9 months.

Dean Ambrose vs Randy Orton

At Battleground I presume Kane will face Ambrose and Sheamus faces Orton, Orton beats Sheamus and Ambrose defeats Kane, with Sheamus becoming the WWE champion at the end of the night. Orton thinks he should face Sheamus for the title, but Ambrose says he wants another shot, therefore the Director of Operations makes this match, with the winner getting a future title shot, but the loser will not receive another title shot until the belt changes hands.

Lana and Dolph Ziggler vs Summer Rae and Rusev

This is all dependent on Rusev’s recovery from his injury, if so this match will likely happen, and it will be the first time we see Lana in a match. As shown on Monday Night Raw it seems an alliance between Rusev and Summer Rae is set to take place, but expect Lana and Dolph to win this match, as Lana hits a Zig-Zag on Summer Rae for the victory.

Ryback vs The Miz vs Big Show vs King Barrett vs R-Truth vs Neville (Intercontinental Championship 6 Pack Challenge)

What is Neville doing at the moment, facing different members of the New Day and always the Prime Time Players come out to help him and on most occasions a 6 man tag match happens. King Barrett and R-Truth are tussled in a stupid feud as well, where instead of the King, Barrett is the village idiot.

The other three I haven’t mentioned are likely to meet at Battleground, so surely unless anything changes over the next 7 weeks up until SummerSlam, Miz, Ryback and Big Show could still be involved in the Intercontinental championship hunt, so why not place King Barrett, R-Truth and Neville into the feud and make a 6 person match.

Prime Time Players vs New Day vs Lucha Dragons

The Prime Time Players will retain their titles at Battleground against the New Day. However at SummerSlam I can see there being a triple threat tag match between these three teams. It comes down to the Prime Time Players and The Lucha Dragons, The Lucha Dragons win and battle against the Prime Time Players throughout Night of Champions and Hell in a Cell. Whereas the New Day will split after SummerSlam and move in separate directions.

Seth Rollins vs Triple H is again a perfect student vs mentor rivalry that can main event SummerSlam, and Rollins can feud with members of The Authority before The Shield reforms to eventually take down The Authority permanently at Survivor Series 2015, 3 years after they debuted.

Sheamus vs Lesnar will be a good hard-hitting match, with I think the possibility of Heyman turning on Lesnar and revealing Sheamus as “a new Paul Heyman Guy”.

If Triple H and Stephanie McMahon want to improve the Divas roster please push Charlotte up to the main roster, as she has been ready for the last 6 months, and by bringing Charlotte up it will legitimatise the Divas division.

Owens vs Cena has been, in my opinion, the hottest feud this year, however Cena should actually win at Battleground, as this allows Owens the big win on the big PPV and then we have a final instalment of the best feud in 2015 at Night Of Champions where Owens wins again, because it easily could be seen by the Internet Wrestling Crew that Cena would have buried Owens.

Randy Orton just doesn’t seem to be a great face, as a heel he is great, the Legend Killer, the Apex Predator, he should return as a heel after Ambrose defeats him by a roll up, Orton brutally assualts Ambrose and RKO’s Ambrose through the announcers table, and Ambrose and Orton feud through Night Of Champions and Hell in a Cell.

This Dolph, Rusev and Lana storyline really hasn’t worked in my opinion, probably due to Rusev’s injury, but expect this feud to finish fully at Night Of Champions with a singles match between Ziggler and Rusev, with Lana’s managerial services on the line. Rusev wins, Lana begrudgingly rejoins Rusev, but still gets face reactions, Ziggler moves onto something new and then this storyline is over.
