Team SLTD – Elimination Chamber

Once again Team SLTD have gotten together to give our thoughts on who we think will come out victorious at Elimination Chamber this Sunday. Will it be the WWE Champion John Cena or will Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, The Miz, AJ Styles or Baron Corbin become the new champion?

We all give our thoughts below, let us know in the comments who you think will win!

I’m not a big fan of the Elimination Chamber match being between the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania. I can’t help but feel in this instance, Randy Orton won the Rumble so gets a title shot..but 5 other guys receive a title opportunity before he does. It doesn’t make sense to me.
I am also strongly against the fact that the Intercontinental Champion is in this match, when I think being such an important title means it should be involved in a big match.
This year there are rumours that Cena will be dropping the title only a few weeks after winning it, so who does that leave as potential winner? Bray Wyatt obviously the favourite to go up against his fellow Wyatt Family member, although how could WWE just edge AJ Styles out of the title picture after his incredible year? They have to be really careful with how each superstar is booked in this match going forward to Wrestlemania, because I would like to hope there is a plan in place for each of the competitors in this match.
My overall feeling, however, is that John Cena will retain.

I know all the smart money is on Bray Wyatt winning the WWE World Championship on Sunday and then going to WrestleMania to be one of the main events vs. Randy Orton to pay off on their storyline, but I’m going in an opposite direction.  I believe that AJ Styles should regain the WWE World Championship, Cena will invoke his rematch clause for WrestleMania and set-up a huge Triple-Threat that is worthy of a WrestleMania main event.  It appeals to me more than Wyatt vs. Orton.

Smart money is on Bray Wyatt, considering the winner of this match will ultimately face Randy Orton at Wrestlemania, however I don’t think Bray Wyatt wins this Sunday for numerous reasons. A match between Wyatt and Orton has already taken place at October’s No Mercy and in my opinion it was average at best. I’m not sure if Wyatt vs Orton can live up to its hype and compared to the potential clash between Owens vs Jericho or Lesnar vs Goldberg for Raw’s Universal Title it doesn’t hold a candle to these matches. Therefore, I expect Luke Harper to cost Bray Wyatt on Sunday, and it comes down to AJ Styles and John Cena, and Styles topples Cena once again, and regains his title, setting up a mouth-watering never before seen match against the Apex Predator Randy Orton and the Phenomenal One AJ Styles!

If the rumours are to be believed, it’s an obvious pick to go with Bray Wyatt, setting up a WrestleMania main event pitting the Wyatt Family against one another. I predict the match to end shadily, with the lights going out, the Wyatt’s music (wub wub wub) play, and when they turn back on, Randy Orton hits an RKO on Bray’s opponent, leading to Bray winning the title. Furthermore, I predict Baron Corbin to pick up the most eliminations (with two) giving him a big push leading into WrestleMania, where he will hopefully face Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship.

I think the writing’s on the wall for the 16th title reign of John Cena. The fact that they gave us Cena vs Orton on SmackDown for free is a pretty clear indication that this match won’t be happening again in Orlando. It also doesn’t seem that Orton will be losing his title match for Mania so Cena losing the title is also a guarantee at this point. Out of the five other contenders, Bray Wyatt is the clear favourite and makes the most sense in the storyline to go up against Randy for the title at Mania. You could do a swerve where AJ wins the belt back but why bother taking it off him in the first place? Bray wins.

This year’s chamber match, unfortunately in my eyes is very predictable, on the plus side it features some of the best(and underutilised talent) in WWE, and especially on Smackdown LIVE’s roster. With the likes of AJ Styles, John Cena and Baron Corbin in the match I think it’s going to be a fantastic match. In a dream world, I would want AJ Styles to win, like No one can doubt his talent inside the ring! Realistically though, I do think Bray Wyatt will become the new WWE Champion, which sets up for a Wyatt vs Orton WrestleMania match for the title.

While difficult to look past the widely speculated Orton Vs. Wyatt match, I would much prefer to see Orton square off against a newly crowned, two time champ AJ Styles at Wrestlemania. It’d be perfect redemption for Styles and give us a fresh match at Mania in the process. Wyatt could challenge Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship at the big show leading to the Wyatts leading Smackdown Live as the top two champions. It won’t happen. I want AJ to win in the Chamber but I think Wyatt will.

@maruwe22 (What Would Matt Do?)
John Cena – The Champ, the man who has helped WWE transition from era to era and to help make AJ Styles’ debut even better than it ever could have been.  AJ Styles – The man who had the best rookie year in WWE history, just piping Kurt Angle to this accolade. Bray Wyatt – The phenomena which has been pushed and twisted more than a champagne bottle cork trying to be opened by a Formula 1 race winner. Dean Ambrose – The reigning IC Champion and a man who has had matches, good matches, against the majority of other wrestlers in the match. The Miz – The number 1 heel that WWE had working for them in 2016. Is that a big accolade? Yes. But the work that The Miz has put in place is amazing. Baron Corbin – The newcomer, the man who has a spot to fill on the roster. He has a lot of potential and Vince likes the tall, big men on the roster.

I could quite easily see any of these men walking out with the title if it weren’t the middle of WrestleMania season. Looking onto WrestleMania and what could happen starts to limit the field. Is Corbin ready to appear at ‘Mania with the title? No. Should Ambrose be a double champion, again heading into ‘Mania? No. Does John Cena need to win the match to make himself look strong? No. This leaves us with Styles, Wyatt and The Miz. With Cena out of the picture with the title and me wanting to see another Styles vs Cena match, that rules out the champ retaining, leaving us with The Miz and Bray Wyatt. Storyline wise, The Miz as a heel champion is good fun and would go to show how could he can be. However, Wyatt as the champion gives us lots of angles to look at – Orton vs Wyatt being one. If the whole purpose of Orton joining The Wyatt Family, driving a wedge between the Family and winning the Rumble is to turn Wyatt into the champion then I’m all for it. Hopefully that’s the case. So therefore, my winner and NEW Champion is none other than Bray Wyatt.
