Its not SLTD’s Mania Month without us get getting together and discussing The WWE Hall of Fame. A few of the team have added their thoughts on Kane, why not add yours in the comments below…
Today we have, The Wrestling Brain (TWB), Kantastic Wrestle Corner (KWK) and Tybo Talks (TT)
TWB: Kane is a true wrestling great, from his infamous debut in 1997 to his recent Royal Rumble appearance he is the personification of what a Hall of Famer should be. One of my favourites runs in his career was his time in Team Hell No! alongside Daniel Bryan, they had some really memorable segments together and were focal points of the tag team division for the best part of 9 months.
But the moment that will be forever etched in history was at Badd Blood 1997 and the image of Kane ripping off the cell door to confront Undertaker, it started the feud between the two, who would then later team with one another in the Brothers Of Destruction.
There’s so much from his illustrious career that makes him HOF worthy, and I’m happy he’s going in and getting that deserved recognition.
KWK: Glenn Jacobs certainly has had an interesting life. Born to an Air Force family while they were stationed overseas in Spain, Jacobs played basketball and football before wrestling became his calling. Joining WWE in the mid-1990s, Jacobs wrestled under a few different personas in WWE, such as Isaac Yankem DDS, a dentist gimmick, as well as being the infamous ‘fake’ Diesel. None of those gimmicks was particularly memorable and it was not until 1997 that Jacobs found the perfect role for him in WWE: that of the Undertaker’s “disfigured” and estranged brother, Kane.
I still remember that Hell in a Cell match when the lights dimmed and that ominous music played, as this hulking red figure walked down the runway with Paul Bearer screaming right behind him. He tore apart the cell’s doors and almost single-handily quashed the mystique of the Phenom right before our eyes.
Throughout his legendary 20 plus year career, Glenn ‘Kane’ Jacobs has given wrestling fans some of the most memorable moments in WWE. From the epic battles with the Undertaker such as the first-ever Inferno match, winning the WWE title from Stone Cold Steve Austin, unmasking in 2003 and undergoing a dramatic psychological change, teaming with ‘Taker as the Brothers of Destruction…even Team Hell No with Daniel Bryan, Kane has made his mark and cemented his legacy in the world of wrestling.
The fact that when Jacobs decided to run for mayor in his hometown, he got endorsements from a who’s who of legends and current talent in the ring and beyond. That is a testament to the respect and admiration Kane has garnered in the wrestling community amongst his peers and fans alike.
Congratulations to the Big Red Machine Kane on his 2021 Hall of Fame induction. He will now forever be the Big Red Hall of Famer.
TT: I honestly cant say enough great things about Glenn Jacobs and his Kane character. Jacobs is the most deserving member of this Hall of Fame Class and he should without a doubt headline the show.
This is going to be a strange comparison but if Undertaker was the Batman of WWE, Kane is 100% the Robin who went on to become Nightwing (Dick Grayson). Kane has been constantly reinvented to fit the character he has needed to play, and there are only a handful of wrestlers who can do that over a 25+ year stint.
To put it into context, Kane started out as ‘The Fiend’ of the late 90’s and has shown every aspect of a layered character you could ask for. Glenn Jacobs IS Kane, and he has kept the roots of that character as much as possible through every gimmick change, from psychopath to hugger, from brunt brother to corporate muscle, Kane has been a pleasure to watch.
