With WrestleMania right around the corner and SLTD Wrestling’s ‘ManiaMonth’ well under way, the SLTD Team have come together to share our thoughts on Charles Wright ‘The Godfather’s Hall of Fame Induction.
Below are our thoughts, but as always we invite you to share yours below, or on our Twitter and Facebook.

I figured the Godfather would get in sooner or later. Godfather is one of those characters that was just insanely over during the Attitude Era. He was not over to the point where he was main-eventing pay-per-views, but he knew how to entertain a crowd which is what WWE has always wanted out of its talent. Godfather could also go in the ring as well. Let’s not forget. It’s becoming a regular thing for at least one lad from the Attitude Era to make it into the Hall of Fame this year and apparently, it’s Godfather’s turn this year.

The Godfather is an interesting inductee into this year’s Hall of Fame, unfortunately the only time I saw Godfather wrestle was for 17 seconds in the 2013 Royal Rumble before he was eliminated by Dolph Ziggler. But in the Attitude Era he was an odd character that had never really been seen before in WWF. It could be argued that The Godfather was supposedly a comedy character but the audience loved him and took him to levels that you couldn’t imagine in a short space of time. Godfather is an odd inductee as I said at the start but he played a role, not major but a role in WWF’s Attitude Era and one question I have do we see Godfather and the Ho train roll into Dallas on April 2nd.

The Godfather… From the hot chicks at ringside to him dancing in the ring and wrestling inside there, he always used to entertain people. The godfather deserves that Hall Of Fame spot and that’s because he is a very unique individual, you wouldn’t find another person like him.
Congrats, Godfather!

You can’t think of the attitude era without thinking of The Godfather, what better way to entice teenage men to tune into your show then to have one of the guys come out with a selection of scantily clad woman right?? Well it obviously worked because in no time The Godfather was given the honour of becoming the IC Champion, he’s picked up wins over some of the best, as a big guy he was a brawler! You didn’t want to face The Godfather…. Still to this day he’s very popular, as you can tell from the pop he received on his surprise appearance in the 2013 Royal Rumble! Well done to The Godfather for his induction into the Hall Of Fame, very deserved!

Personally I congratulate Charles Wright for getting the honour of entering the once coveted WWE HOF, however Wright never once portrayed a character worthy of the Hall of Fame. From Papa Shango to Kama Mustafa to the Godfather Wright portrayed lacklustre characters not even worthy of being on the independents. The Greatest part of all this is how now in 2016 during WWE’s PG era they will explain the character of the Godfather and what he stood for between 1998 and 2000. I think it’s hypocritical that ‘The Godfather’ get’s and induction while legends like Owen Hart, Big Van Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow get ignored. Once more I congratulate Charles Wright, well done, however this makes WWE’s coveted HOF ceremony a joke.

What do I say about The Godfather. Being new to wrestling I first saw the Godfather wrestle when I wasn’t really a fan and only caught a match of his because Tybo was watching a RAW from 2000. I saw him with all of his “hoes” and being referred to as the “hoe train” and thought what the actual hell is this!! Since then I would always refer to him as The Pimp Daddy as let’s be honest that’s what he was! That being said I grew to love him! I thought he brought something different to RAW and brought some entertainment with being able to have matches in exchange for hoes, winning over sexual chocolate himself Mark Henry! Which I think kept things entertaining and probably helped keep or gain some ratings! I think this was good to see and it was even better that he wasn’t just the novelty act with these type of matches but he could actually have a decent match and worked well in the ring! Congratulations Charles Wright!! Enjoy taking the hoe train all the way to the Hall of Fame!

What can be said about The Godfather? He is the embodiment of everything that is the Attitude Era! It is a gimmick that would never work in any other era, or probably with anyone else portraying it. Charles Wright has had four gimmicks in the WWE, and every one of them have been completely different, this showing just how good of a performer Wright is. Going from The Godfather and the success he had to then completely change it up and come out as The Goodfather, again shows how good of a gimmick man Wright was. Congrats to Charles Wright.
In the immortal words of JBL, ‘when I grow up I want to be The Godfather.’

It’s good to see The Godfather go into the Hall of Fame. Charles Wright did well under the Papa Shango and Kama Mutafa gimmicks, but he’ll always be known as The Godfather to a lot of fans. It was such a wacky character, but he made it work so well that after he was released in 2002, the gimmick still made for some great one-off appearances later down the line, even when the PG-13 rating that accompanied it in the Attitude Era was gone. The Godfather is a fitting inductee, and I look forward to hearing his speech on April 2nd (partly because I want to see just how many Divas walk him out to the stage). Congratulations to the Godfather! Choo choo!
