With WrestleMania right around the corner and SLTD Wrestling’s ‘ManiaMonth’ well under way, the SLTD Team have come together to share our thoughts on ‘The Icon’ Sting’s Hall of Fame Induction.
Below are our thoughts, but as always we invite you to share yours below, or on our Twitter and Facebook.

I must admit, I never watched WCW. My first sight of Sting was in TNA, and immediately I knew that he was a veteran, possibly coming to the end of his career. I was surprised at his longevity with the company and my appreciation of Sting grew with the release of ‘The Rise & Fall Of WCW’, and the rumours circulating around the time of Wrestlemania 27 indicating a possible match with WWE’s own man in black, The Undertaker.
Fast forward to 2016 and The Man Called Sting is being inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame. Having now looked back on the career of Sting and his appearances on WWE television, I can happily say that this induction is well earned, deserved and maybe even overdue.

Sting is an incredibly worthy entry into the WWE Hall of Fame, despite the complaints over what happened during his WWE career. The way I’ve always seen it is that the Hall of Fame should celebrate the careers of wrestlers that have had had a huge impact on the professional wrestling industry. Sting’s commitment to professional wrestling for so many years should be rewarded and it would have been wrong to have a WWE Hall of Fame without Sting, even if he did make his name in WCW.

There’s not much I can say about Sting and his induction into the Hall of Fame that you might not have read already. Ultimately, Sting’s attitude and loyalty has been strongly admired and his induction proves that the WWE Hall of Fame is legitimate and a truly iconic achievement. As a wrestling fan, I wish Sting had joined the company earlier and given us a few feuds we dreamed about (basically meaning The Undertaker), but his match against Triple H will be watched for years to come. Congratulations Sting!

In my opinion there is no-one more deserving to go into the Hall Of Fame than Sting. He truly is an Icon, someone who has been at the top of his game for 4 decades. He could play the cool high – fiving character as Surfer Sting or he could play the mysterious character as The Vigilante.
I wasn’t even born when Sting was making waves in WCW and by the time I was watching WWE, Sting was wrestling with rival company TNA, and as a WWE fan I never watched TNA. However, as a wrestling fan you had to know who Sting was. When I was reading several rumours that Sting would be appearing at Survivor Series 2014 I bought the PPV on Sky Box Office straight away as I wasn’t going to miss such a historic moment in wrestling history. As the PPV carried on, I was beginning to think ‘Is Sting going to appear?!’
Then the sound of the crow, which is symbolic to Sting, blasted through my TV and all of a sudden my spine was tingling and my hands were shaking. and there he is was; The Vigilante, The Icon, The Franchise, Sting. I can’t really name a favourite Sting match as I can’t say I truly enjoyed either match he had in a WWE ring but I can say I’m grateful as a WWE fan that we saw Sting inside WWE squared circle.

Very happy for Sting that he is being acknowledged on such a grand stage. People may not see his short WWE career as much of a success, but there’s no doubt that his contributions to wrestling deserve to be rewarded by entering the Hall of Fame. I had the privilege of seeing him wrestle Triple H at Wrestlemania 31 last year, and with the whole of Levi’s Stadium in awe of him, there is no doubt that Sting is exactly what he says he is, an icon.

What can I say about Sting? There are few men who have “The Icon” attached to their name and deserve it. Sting is one of those who does! I was never a WCW fan when I was a kid but I know who Sting was, so much so that I dressed up as Sting for Halloween, about 4 years running (maybe because of my love for The Crow movie) but nonetheless that character was always cool to me. The fact that he stuck with WCW till the end is amazing to me and shows the sort of man he is. Sting without a doubt deserves his spot in the Hall of Fame. He is an Icon, and let’s be honest, he proved in his match last year with Seth Rollins that he can still go!
Still dreaming of seeing The Icon vs. The Phemon at a Wrestlemania.
