#TeamSLTD’s Favourite Extreme Stipulations (@callumowen98 | @TyboTalks | @KWCALAN) #ExtremeRules

With WWE’s Extreme Rules PPV this weekend, some of Team SLTD decided to get together and share their favourite Extreme Stipulations, from WWE over the years. Why not share yours in the comments below.

My favourite Extreme stipulation is the Ladder match, since Wrestlemania 10 where Razor Ramon took on Shawn Michaels, the Ladder match has been a staple of WWE for over 25 years. We’ve had Money In The Bank play a huge part of WWE since 2005, and whilst we’ve witnessed some death-defying stunts throughout that time, my favourite Ladder match comes from an Armageddon PPV in 2006 as Paul London and Brian Kendrick defended their WWE Tag Team Championship against The Hardy Boyz, MNM and Dave Taylor and William Regal.

This one is probably more memorably known for Joey Mercury having his nose broken from being hit by the ladder, the image of him having blood dripping from his face is pretty gory still to this day. I was a big fan of London and Kendrick growing up and still to this day say that they were criminally underrated, and if they were around today they would be one of the best tag teams in the world.

In this match we also saw perhaps a career-defining performance from Johnny Nitro, after Mercury was removed from the match, Nitro had to go it alone, and he got close to winning the titles for him and partner. However, the defending champions would retain their titles, in a match that I’d recommend you watching if you haven’t seen it before.

Any form of a Ladder match whether it be a Money In The Bank, or being included in TLC always grabs my attention, over the past 25 years we’ve seen the stipulation evolve and with the current crop of talent in the world of wrestling, the extremeness and high-risk high reward of Ladder matches will no pun intended to climb the ladder.

My favourite extreme stipulation would have to be Falls Count Anywhere, a match that pretty much does what it says on the tin can end anywhere in the arena or its surroundings. My favourite Falls Count Anywhere match though has to be Kane vs Randy Orton from Extreme Rules 2012.

I got into wrestling around 2012(ish) and I remember Extreme Rules 2012 being the first PPV that I truly loved and I still love it to this day. The first match on the PPV was Randy Orton vs Kane in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Randy Orton and Kane had faced off before at WrestleMania 28 (the PPV before Extreme Rules) in a boring match so the Extreme Rules match was a significant upgrade compared to the WrestleMania clash between the two.

The Falls Count Anywhere match between Orton and Kane holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of when I first became a fan of wrestling and WWE in general and it’s still a match that I go back to from time to time when I’m bored or in the mood for a decent and fun wrestling match. I would recommend this match if you have a spare twenty minutes or if you want a great PPV, check out Extreme Rules 2012 in general.

What I like about the Falls Count Anywhere stipulation is the unpredictability that comes with it, the idea that the match can end anywhere in the arena instead of the typical ring is exciting to me.

TyboTalks
@TyboTalks

I have many favourite extreme stipulation matches that I love but the top would have to be a Hell in a Cell. King of the Ring 1998 was the VHS PPV I had ever bought with my own money, I owned other tapes but they were all compilations.

The reason this one was so special was because of Mick Foley’s insane plummet from the top of the cell (I’m almost certain if your reading this you have seen that moment. From then on I have always loved a Hell in a Cell match. Although I do have to say the most recent versions of Cell matches will never match up to the older ones. The cell being red is one issue but it’s lost its spark since WWE made it into a PPV… but that’s for its own Tybo Talks.

My favourite Hell in a Cell match would have to be Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker from No Mercy 2002. This is almost a forgotten cell match, but the story it tells is incredible. It’s worth noting that at this time ‘Taker was not only The American Badass but it was also known he was married and had a baby on the way.

This was a classic feud between the two and had boiled over to the point where something like a Hell in a Cell was needed to end it. This is an intensely brutal match and honestly, The Undertaker has never looked so human, add to that that he is literally pissing blood from his head and it shows Lesnar to be the younger and hungrier champion and truly ‘The Next Big Thing’.

I would go so far as to say if you haven’t watched this match, watch it on the WWE Network, and you will fully understand why it was Brock Lesnar who beat ‘The Streak’.

There are our favourite stipulations, but what are yours? Let us know below or tweet us @SLTDWrestling.
