Here are the talking points from last night’s Monday Night Raw.
Monday Night Reigns?
The Big Dog Roman Reigns spent a total of 49 minutes on our TV screens on last night’s Raw. He also seems to be involved in two feuds on the show, he has his own issues Bobby Lashley and is helping Seth Rollins deal with Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre. It’s no secret that Reigns is not liked by many fans and I don’t think giving him more TV time will get him over with the fans. Maybe the complete opposite of not putting him on TV for a period of time may help him win over the audience. After all, absence does make the heart grow fonder.
Everyone’s favourite psychiatrist returns
Dr Shelby, the man who united Daniel Bryan and Kane back in 2013 has returned to our TVs to help deal with the issues between Sasha Banks and Bayley. I’m not sure if people wanted this feud to take this direction, but including Dr Shelby into proceedings does add an interesting and comical factor to this storyline. I hope this story culminates with a huge blow-off match at one of the big four PPVs.
Mojo Rawley does not like cheeseburgers
For the second week running, Rawley has taken his anger towards No Way Jose out on his friend the cheeseburger. I’m disappointed that there was no Todd this week, maybe because he was too over with the crowd. This feud isn’t going to set the world alight but I do like Rawley as a heel, he cuts good promos and has great intensity. Rawley could certainly be a strong upper mid-card heel in the future, maybe even a run with the US or Intercontinental title.
Raw on repeat
Last night we had Matt Hardy v Curtis Axel for the second week running and The Revival v Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley for the third straight week. Over the years, it has been a regular theme of WWE putting on the same matches week on week. It is like WWE think the fans don’t notice when they do this but we definitely do. I think WWE’s creative team needs to be more creative with their booking of matches for Monday nights.
Dodgy finishes
There were six matches on last night’s Raw, and half of them finished with either a disqualification or a count-out. It appears that WWE has the philosophy of results of matches on Raw or Smackdown means very little in storylines, but we all know now results do matter as it can hinder a superstars momentum and the progression of a storyline. At the end of the day, all us fans want to see is good wrestling and sometimes I feel that WWE focus more on storylines than the wrestling talent of the superstars in them.
