In just under a weeks time, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be defended by Triple H at wrestling’s biggest event of the year, WrestleMania, against the Samoan Badass Roman Reigns. I use the term Samoan Badass as it is constantly used by Paul Heyman and does sound pretty cool.
This encounter has been teased about for a while, stemming from The Shield’s rivalry with Evolution. Although these two men have never officially gone one on one against each other, there definitely is history there that WWE can and should exploit. Personally, I have been wanting this match for a long time as both men can gel well together to produce something memorable. There is something about this pair that gets me excited and intrigued to see this match. But let’s face it, the booking has not been fantastic.
The title match should always be the last match at WrestleMania, or indeed any PPV as this is the most prestigious title, and the highest accolade in WWE. With Shane vs. Taker set for Mania too, it is difficult to say which match will close the show, but if this match was to close the show, we have only really had two solid weeks of booking and story to get us interested. Yes, Reigns took out Triple H at TLC for weeks, and Triple H returned the favor not so long ago, but we have not been reminded of this. We have not been shown all the attacks or moments between these two over the years. All we keep seeing is Triple H’s attack from a few weeks ago that kept Roman out for a couple of weeks.
Since Roman’s return, he has definitely looked better. Creative seem to have taken the time and really focus on what Roman should be like. He is more no nonsense, more ass kicker like. They changed his entrance, he is a man of fewer words and stronger punches – exactly what all the fans wanted, and it’s slowly working. The only question is, is it too late? Could this have been done earlier to give a more stronger, big fight feel to the match?
There is a lot more potential to this story than we are being shown. Show us glimpses of the past feud between The Shield and Evolution. Have Seth Rollins come out and tell Roman he should not wake the sleeping giant of The Cerebral Assassin. Have Roman Reigns bring up Triple H’s history with The Rock. What WWE have done in the past two weeks has been perfect, out of nowhere attacks in the ring and in the parking lot. We just needed it earlier.
Monday is the final Raw before WrestleMania, and the last chance to build this match. For me, there is only one option and that is an all out brawl. Finish the show with these two ripping each other to shreds, with the entire locker room trying and failing to break it up. Give us the personal and title picture that this feud deserves.
For the match itself, who knows, maybe if this closes the night, the Hell in a Cell structure could lower, making this even more special. Maybe The Rock comes out, or other outside interference. All things considered, WWE, take this to the next level.
