Survivor Series is just two days away, and surprisingly is the most unpredictable event in recent memory. We are going in knowing that there will be a new WWE World Heavyweight champion. But who? Will there be a curveball triple threat match? Will there be a heel turn? Will Sheamus cash in? All of these are likely. However, the other, perhaps slightly smaller unanswered question is, who will be in the Survivor Series elimination match?
There has been no focus, no draw, no attraction to the elimination match this year. We don’t even know who is in the match, the story or reason behind it. This may mean we are not too concerned with the match itself and will just be a good little spot for a few random superstars. But WWE have a really good opportunity here, to put some people on the map, as there is no expectation on this match.
The main idea that springs to mind for me, is having a Team NXT vs. Team Raw match. NXT has become a global brand, a great place to learn and have great matches for upcoming wrestlers. The product of NXT has already has a great impact on the main roster too, with Neville always amazing in the ring and Fight Owens Fight just making every spot seem epic. This is an ideal chance then, to get some more main stream exposure to the NXT brand. It’s no longer just a place to learn but a place people want to be.
Initially I was going to run through who could feature on each team, but being the reality era, the reality is it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter who is on either team, but the concept itself puts this match over. The main roster have new talent to work with and to do spots they wouldn’t usually get. NXT gets on the map more and the wrestlers of NXT get some main roster and PPV experience.
My assumption is either way, The New Day will feature here as they are currently not on the card. In any case, let’s hope the creative team listen to The Voice of Reason.
Hope you all have a great Survivor Series weekend. Til next time.
