Many may remember the events of 2 odd months ago when WWE’s favourite underdog, Daniel Bryan, had to retire from wrestling after a series of injuries and concussions. That same night, Titus O’Niel put his hands on the Chairman. Vince McMahon, and was later suspended for 60 days.
An outpouring of support from WWE fans and former WWE wrestlers lead many to think that Titus would leave the WWE after being suspended for “not much” and missing WrestleMania, but now, Titus has returned – and the return was… Non eventful. WWE really needed to us this as an opportunity to elevate a more than talented guy, who’s marketable for all the right reasons. Yet Titus’ return was wasted on the Battle Royal for the number 1 contender of the U.S. Title, which he did not win.
Here, there was a real opportunity. Book Titus O’Niel to come back and threaten Vince. We all know the best storylines develop from real life back stories. Vince is out there bragging about his greatness, interrupted by Shane. Shane proceeds to show he is the catalyst for change and a breath of fresh air in the WWE. And that comes not only from new talents, but from misused old ones – out comes Titus O’Niel.
So you have now aligned Titus with Shane, a great match from a babyface booking standpoint. This could develop into a feud with Authority aligned heels, Jericho, Owens, and maybe even eventually, Roman Reigns. Building up Titus to be one of the top main eventers, at least for a little while and eventually become the first black WWE World Heavyweight Champion or if you don’t wanna go that far, an easy winner for the MITB briefcase.
This all would never happen however and WWE wouldn’t want to reward a talent for getting suspended.
WWE just have to use these talents better. The recent rise of fresh talents is a great starting point and definitely something they need to build on.
