A lot of this will be fantasy booking. While it may follow current storyline patterns at the moment, it will very much incorporate what I personally want to see for the year ahead (2014). All views are my own and all that, but feel free to contribute what you think might happen in the year ahead below or send me a tweet. I’m @GameOverGary.
I’ll cover all the titles for the first half of the year, but only the main-event matches for the latter half. If you want to blame someone, blame WWE for their lack of roster depth!
The Shield will break up, but they won’t be gravitating to the main-event much as they’ll need to establish themselves as singles stars first. I wanted to make one of them champ, but there are other people more deserving of it in the year ahead in my honest opinion.
NOTE: This has been written AFTER the post-TLC Raw, so anything that’s happened since then hasn’t been taken into account.
Royal Rumble
The title match will be a rematch from TLC with John Cena taking on Randy Orton for Orton’s newly-won WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
It’ll be a long(ish) match with a possible return (or a run-in, since we’ll get enough returns in the Rumble match itself), causing Cena to lose. If Sheamus doesn’t return in the Rumble match, then I can see him returning here and making his intentions clear, starting his title hunt.
I can see a rematch between Big E Langston and Damien Sandow for the Intercontinental Championship happening here too, possibly with the addition of a 3rd person like Dolph Ziggler, Wade Barrett, or as a long shot, Bray Wyatt.
Dean Ambrose should defend his US Championship for the first time in a long time here as well, dropping it to a lower mid-carder like Justin Gabriel, Fandango, Tyson Kidd or some combination of all 3. It would make his appearance in the final 4 of the Rumble seem legitimate and like he’s going to win, giving the Rumble a hint of spontaneity, which it sorely needs.
Natalya gets a rematch with AJ Lee for the Divas Championship since AJ retained at TLC. After a back and forth match where it looks like AJ will retain without Tamina (who’s been banned from ringside), a masked woman comes through the crowd and attacks AJ while Natalya’s down. Natalya applies the Sharpshooter and wins the Divas Championship.
Natalya notices the woman and looks confused. She leaves the ring, clearly afraid of what might happen. The woman enters the ring and stands over AJ. She slowly takes off her mask to reveal that she is Paige from NXT. The announcers are shocked. She lifts AJ up off the ground, screams, and hits the Paige Turner. She leaves, with AJ laid out in the middle of the ring.
Since Cody Rhodes and Goldust are still popular at the moment, they’ll probably have to defend their titles and I think it should be against the Real Americans. They’ll successfully defend their titles and The Real Americans will implode, leading to an Antonio Cesaro face turn to make him look as legitimate as Ambrose in the Rumble match later on.
The focus of the Royal Rumble is usually, funnily enough, the Royal Rumble match. And that won’t change this year. Here are a list of things that I want to see in the 2014 Rumble match itself:
- Roman Reigns going on a Kane-like streak, maybe even shattering Kane’s record of 11 eliminations in one match (from 2001)
- Kurt Angle returns in his home town of Pittsburgh, PA to a thunderous pop (Not gonna happen, but come on, you’d all love it!)
- Brock Lesnar enters the Royal Rumble and goes crazy (possibly ending Reigns’ run before being eliminated himself)
- Antonio Cesaro giant swinging lots of people, possibly eliminating them as he does so (however that would work)
- CM Punk eliminates Brock Lesnar to get revenge for his loss at SummerSlam (and re-ignite their feud for later)
- The final 4 being CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose and Antonio Cesaro
- CM Punk and Daniel Bryan eliminating each other to end the Rumble in a draw
So the Rumble ends in a draw. It can be viewed as there being 2 winners, or no winner. For the purposes of fantasy booking, there are 2 winners.
Elimination Chamber
Picture this. We have several small King Of The Ring-style qualifying tournaments to determine the entrants in the elimination chamber match this year. There are 4 spots since Cena will have 1, courtesy of the screwy finish to the title match at the Rumble. Orton’s obviously scared because he can very easily lose his title with 5 other people in the mix.
The first tournament features Bad News Barrett vs Sheamus and Zack Ryder vs Damien Sandow. Sheamus defeats Barrett and Sandow defeats Ryder (because lol…it’s Ryder). Sheamus then defeats Sandow to earn a spot in the match.
That week on SmackDown, the next tournament is held with Dean Ambrose vs Jack Swagger and Big E Langston vs The Miz. Dean Ambrose defeeats Jack Swagger in a hard-fought match that the crowd is really into and Big E defeats The Miz. Ambrose gets the win over Big E when Big E is distracted by a returning Alberto Del Rio, whose sights are now set on the Intercontinental Championship.
The following week on Raw, the third tournament is held with Kofi Kingston squaring off against Xavier Woods in a high-flying spot-fest and Roman Reigns vs R-Truth. Kofi Kingston defeats Xavier Woods and Reigns plows through R-Truth. In the final qualifying match Roman Reigns earns a spot in the match after nailing a huge spear to Kofi as Kofi was coming off a springboard splash.
The following week, 6 days before the PPV, the final tournament begins. Firstly it’s Antonio Cesaro vs Mark Henry and then it’s Seth Rollins vs Justin Gabriel. Cesaro defeats Mark Henry after a Giant Swing and a Neutraliser, and Seth Rollins has a great match with Justin Gabriel, winning with the Blackout. The final match is the main-event and Cesaro gets the win after a phenomenal 20+ minute match. The crowd is electric and Cesaro leaves the ring to a huge ovation as Raw goes off the air.
So the final lineup for the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is:
- Randy Orton (WWE World Heavyweight Champion)
- John Cena
- Sheamus
- Dean Ambrose
- Roman Reigns
- Antonio Cesaro
While this tournament’s going on, there’s been a lot of back and forth on who the Rumble winner was. We’ve seen replay after replay. Each man insists it was him. Triple H doesn’t want either man to win, but he certainly doesn’t want either man in his WrestleMania main-event so he makes a 1-on-1 match between Bryan and Punk at the PPV, with the winner going on to WrestleMania to face the winner of the Elimination Chamber match. Punk and Bryan agree to the match, but they add a stipulation – Falls Count Anywhere. Punk also continues to poke fun at HHH by inferring that Stephanie’s behind him pulling the strings, balls in the purse, all that PG stuff that they can get away with.
The PPV rolls around and there are a number of matches of note.
Tyson Kidd, having won the US Championship at the Rumble, defends it against Fandango – who won a number 1 contender’s Battle Royal featuring Zack Ryder, Justin Gabriel, Drew McIntyre, Curtis Axel, Bad News Barrett and Jack Swagger on the pre-show. Fandango wins the title after a lengthy back and forth match and vows to dance for all the people of America, which gets a chorus of boos from the crowd.
Big E Langston defends his Intercontinental Championship against Ryback – who won a number 1 contender’s triple-threat match on Raw a few weeks back against Damien Sandow and Dolph Ziggler. Big E wins with the Big Ending. When Big E is interviewed by Renee Young, he vows to move up and challenge the unified champion before the end of the year.
The Tag-Team Championships are on the line when Cody Rhodes and Goldust defend the belts against The Uso’s. In a shock move, The Uso’s win when Goldust turns on Cody, allowing them to pick up the win. Goldust destroys Cody after the match, calling him an ungrateful runt and saying that he was always better and he (Cody) has had too many chances. He leaves to a shocked crowd booing him.
AJ comes out and says she’s been away for a few weeks, trying to make sense of what happened. She says that she’s heard Paige was backstage earlier, so she wants a match with her right now. Paige’s music hits and she comes out ready for a fight. After a long(ish) match (maybe 10-12 mins), Paige gets the win with the Paige Turner.
The Punk and Bryan match goes on second to last. It goes for 30 minutes before they end up fighting it out backstage. After some great spots like a GTS on a car hood and a flying head butt from the top of a staircase with no pinfalls happening, all of a sudden HHH appears and Pedigrees Punk! He says that Punk will never be champion again as long as he’s in charge. Bryan is shocked and refuses to cover Punk because it isn’t fair, so HHH Pedigrees him too, throws him on top of Punk and demands that the ref counts to 3. The ref counts and Bryan is going to WrestleMania.
The main-event, the Chamber match, starts with John Cena and Sheamus. They go back and forth until the next participant – Dean Ambrose – enters. Ambrose sneak attacks Sheamus with the headlock driver for the 1…2…3. Cena AA’s Ambrose after the pin, but Ambrose kicks out at 2 and rolls under the rope. He plays possum and manages to drop toe-hold Cena into the Chamber wall as the counter starts for the next person to enter and its Reigns.
Ambrose is back in the ring and the crowd goes insane. They’ve been waiting to see these 2 go at it since the dissension in The Shield started way back after Survivor Series. Instead of attacking each other, they both go after Cena and dominate him for a few minutes until Cena rallies and starts on Reigns. Ambrose pulls him off and hits the headlock driver. Ambrose stands cocky in the centre of the ring standing over a fallen Cena when out of nowhere, Reigns hits a huge spear and pins Ambrose for the 1…2…3!
The timer had started counting down in the meantime and the next person out is Antonio Cesaro. He immediately clotheslines Reigns and picks John Cena up by his legs and nails a 40-spin Giant Swing. Reigns has regained his composure and goes for the spear on Cesaro, but Cesaro moves out of the way, sending Reigns flying into the corner. Cesaro sets him up for the Neutraliser and pins him for the 1…2…3.
The time starts again and Orton is out, ready to fight. Cena’s still down on the outside, reeling from the super Giant Swing he took from Cesaro. Orton and Cesaro go back and forth for 5 minutes with Cesaro nailing several near-falls, including Cesaro hitting a beautiful European uppercut on Orton for a 2.5 count. Orton manages to get Cesaro with the second rope DDT and sets him up for the RKO. Cesaro reverses the RKO, pushing Orton into Cena which knocks Cena back to the outside. Cesaro sets Orton up for the Neutraliser, but Orton reverses it, hits a low blow on Cesaro and follows up with an RKO for the 1…2…3.
We’re down to Cena and Orton, and only one can survive. They fight to the outside and go back and forth. Cena sets Orton up for the AA, but Orton reverses it and sets up Cena for the second rope DDT on the outside. He hits it, moves Cena to the corner of one of the chambers and sets up for the Punt Kick, nailing Cena in the head and at the same time, hitting his head right into the edge of a chamber. He rolls Cena just under the ropes and pins him for the 1…2…3. Still the WWE World Heavyweight Champion – Randy Orton.
WrestleMania
There’s a lot of fallout from Elimination Chamber in the main-event. Randy Orton is still WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Daniel Bryan is the number 1 contender because of the actions of Triple H, who has been running roughshod over the entire WWE with Stephanie since SummerSlam last year.
Punk comes out looking angrier than we’ve ever seen him before. He says that Triple H has ruined his shot at main-eventing WrestleMania and he wants revenge. Triple H comes out and says that he did what he did not because it was best for business, but because he just simply doesn’t like Punk. He doesn’t like Daniel Bryan either, but his hatred for Punk far outweighs that.
He says that Punk’s not even on his level and he won’t waste his time on someone like him. Punk tells him that he doesn’t have the balls to do anything except attack him from behind. Triple H starts to walk back up the ramp when Vince McMahon’s music plays and out walks the chairman. In theory, we’ve not seen Vince since TLC.
Vince plays to the crowd, and the crowd love it. He says he’s been watching what’s been happening and he can’t sit back and watch Triple H jeopardise the biggest event in WWE history. Vince says he’s making a match. That match is Triple H vs Punk at WrestleMania XXX. This infuriates Triple H, who goes ballistic on the ramp as Punk smiles and shakes hands with Vince.
The following week, Vince opens the show and says that he’s back for good. He sat back and allowed Stephanie and Triple H to take over, to see what things would be like when he finally retires, and he didn’t like what he saw. He saw egos running wild, talents scared for their jobs and not being given the opportunities they deserve (which is the most ironic thing Vince would ever say, frankly).
This brings out Stephanie, who says that the Board of Directors made her one of the principal owners of WWE and that with HHH as COO, there’s really nothing to stop them from continuing to do what’s best for business. Vince says he taught Stephanie about business, and what they do isn’t best for business. He says this is what happens when the kids are left in charge while the parents go away for a while. Stephanie slaps him and he grabs her hand, which cues Triple H’s music, and out he comes.
He says that Vince is past his prime. Business has changed and we need to grow…or die. He’s OK with either in Vince’s case. Vince gets enraged but before he says anything, he calms himself down and says that he’ll show him what’s best for business.
Vince adds a stipulation to the match at WrestleMania between Triple H and Punk. If Punk wins, HHH will lose his position as COO and Stephanie will no longer be a principal owner. If Triple H wins, Vince will retire. Triple H looks scared for a second, but then smiles and says that Vince is on.
A lot has been happening in the main-event, but that doesn’t mean that the other championships are being ignored. Far from it.
That night on Raw, there will be a lottery to decide who will compete in a Championship Scramble match for the US Championship held by Fandango. The winners of the lottery end up being Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, The Miz, Justin Gabriel and Ryback. The scramble will last 30 minutes and whoever holds the title at the end will be the US champion.
The Tag-Team Championships are now held by The Uso’s after Goldust’s shocking turn on Cody at Elimination Chamber. The Uso’s are in a rivalry with The Shield (Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns) and Dean Ambrose has decided to go after Big E Langston’s Intercontinental Championship. Brad Maddox decides to make a 6-man “Winners Take All” match at Wrestlemania XXX with The Uso’s and Big E Langston taking on all 3 members of The Shield. There is still a lot of tension brewing between Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns, and it’s reaching the tipping point. They hesitantly agree to the match and have a stare down at the top of the crowd.
The rivalry between Cody and Goldust is getting more and more intense with Goldust cutting amazing promos on his history with Cody and vice versa. Goldust has also ditched the face paint and gold costume. He’s now dressed normally and believes that he’s proved himself. He should be taken seriously because he’s not a sideshow. One night on Raw, Dusty Rhodes comes out to try and mediate, and ends up getting taken out by Goldust with a Cross Rhodes. Cody’s left seething in the ring as Goldust scurries away smiling. Triple H makes a match between them in his weekly interview with Michael Cole on WWE.com.
On the final Raw before the PPV, Cody comes out and demands retribution for his father after what Goldust did. Goldust comes out and said that Cody has to wait until WrestleMania. Kane appears and says that in the interest of giving both men the chance to take out all their ruthless aggression on each other, he’s making the match a Hell in a Cell match. Cody cracks a fiendish grin as Goldust looks genuinely scared.
The same week, Triple H makes the match between him and CM Punk a No-DQ match to ensure a proper winner because he’s “tired of all these screwy finishes to matches”. Punk comes out and accepts, and then Vince comes out. He says that he’ll be in Punk’s corner at WrestleMania to make sure things go as planned. This brings out Stephanie, who says if Punk gets her father in his corner, then HHH gets her.
At the end of the show, The Undertaker makes his long awaited return to the WWE. He talks about last year’s match with CM Punk and puts him over in a huge way. He says he doesn’t know who he wants to face this year. Kane comes out in his suit (he’s still the Director of Operations) and says that Undertaker is a legend and his brother, and he has the right to choose who he faces. But if he can’t decide, then Kane will choose for him.
Before Kane can say any more, Paul Heyman makes a surprise return and says that last year, his former client couldn’t get the job done against Taker. But he has a client that he’s 100% sure can end The Streak. The crowd goes nuts, knowing that he’s talking about Brock Lesnar. All of a sudden, Lesnar appears from over the guard rail and attacks Undertaker from behind, laying him out with an F5. He goes to the top of the ramp where he meets Paul Heyman and they laugh maniacally as Raw goes off the air.
WrestleMania rolls around. It’s a stacked card.
The opening contest is for the United States Championship. After 15 minutes, Xavier Woods pins Justin Gabriel to claim the title, but Ryback quickly hits the Meat Hook Clothesline and pins him to claim it for himself. Ryback dominates for 10 minutes before The Miz hits him with a Skull Crushing Finale from behind to win the title. 5 minutes remain and everyone has their sights set on Miz. Fandango wins back the title with 1:45 left on the clock. He gets cocky, thinking he’s won the Scramble, but with 20 seconds left, Kofi comes off the ropes, hits an aerial Trouble in Paradise and pins him with 6 seconds remaining. Kofi’s the last man to hold the title, so he’s the new United States Champion.
Next up is a fatal-4-way for the Divas Championship with Natalya (the current champion) facing AJ, Brie Bella, and Paige (who debuted at Royal Rumble and defeated AJ at Elimination Chamber). After a few great minutes of action, Paige gets the win by pinning Natalya, and becomes the new Divas Champion.
Goldust and Cody are up next. Both men come out and the cell lowers down around them. The match goes on for a good 30 minutes with Cody picking up the win after a Cross Rhodes. Dusty comes out in a neck brace and they embrace on the ramp as Goldust looks on dejected.
The 6-man “Winner Take All” match is up next. After 15 minutes or so, Dean Ambrose gets shoved into Roman Reigns on the outside. They get into a shoving match and Seth Rollins has to separate them before they get into it. The match goes on for another while and Rollins gets the hot tag in against Jimmy Uso. Jimmy dominates Rollins and Rollins manages to get close enough for a tag, but both Ambrose and Reigns are too busy bickering to notice. Jimmy Uso hits the Super-Kick, tags Jey in, who hits the Splash from the top rope to get the win and retain their titles.
Rollins sits looking at both Ambrose and Reigns with a look of shock on his face. They enter the ring, and get into a shoving match. Rollins again tries to break it up only for Reigns to push him away and lay out Ambrose. Rollins jumps Reigns from behind, but Reigns pushes him away and hits a huge spear that Rollins sells like a boss. Ambrose sneaks up from behind, hits the headlock driver on Reigns from behind and stands over both his former teammates, letting us know with 100% certainty that The Shield are no more. Ambrose removes his “Hounds of Justice” patch from his shirt and flings it at the laid out bodies of Reigns and Rollins.
Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar is up next. The match is “No Holds Barred and Falls Count Anywhere”. Brock dominates the majority of the match, grounding Taker, hitting move after move. He can’t seem to keep Taker down, which really frustrates him. Brock’s frustration leads to Undertaker escaping a Kimura Lock and locking in Hells Gate, forcing Brock to submit and bringing Undertakers streak to 22 – 0. Brock doesn’t like it, so he attacks Undertaker after the match, destroying him before F5’ing him through the Spanish announce table as Paul Heyman looks on.
CM Punk (w/Vince) vs Triple H (w/Stephanie) is up next. Punk comes out with Vince to a huge ovation. Triple H and Stephanie come out to a chorus of boos. Vince and Stephanie get into it outside the ring pretty much immediately. The action is back and forth for 20 minutes or so, with HHH getting the upper hand before Vince and Stephanie try to interfere. Vince knocks Stephanie off the apron and enters the ring with a chair. He goes to hit Triple H with a chair, but hits CM Punk square across the head. Triple H grabs him and nails a pedigree for the 1…2…3. Vince cracks a maniacal smile and embraces H and Stephanie as Punk lies outside the ring.
The main-event is for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan. The match goes on for about 40 minutes and it ends with Bryan pinning Orton after a running knee. Daniel Bryan stands tall with the entire 80,000+ people chanting “Yes!”. A true WrestleMania, star-making moment.
Extreme Rules
The Raw after Wrestlemania was insane as always. The crowd’s on fire and Bryan’s the new champion.
The show opens with Triple H, Vince and Stephanie coming out with big smiles on their faces. Triple H says that last night, he took care of business. Now that he and Stephanie are in charge, they’re unstoppable. He introduces the man who made it all possible – Vince McMahon. Vince says that he’s come to the stage in his life where he wants to retire and when he realised that the top 2 matches featured CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, he knew Triple H and Stephanie were right all along. They do know what’s best for business and he can leave it to them.
Punk comes out and says that he always knew Vince was the worst of all of them. He demands a rematch, but Triple H laughs it off. Punk challenges H to accept it, or things would only get worst. Triple H laughs it off again while Punk seethes on the ramp. Triple H says Punk was lucky to get 1 match with someone of his caliber (completely forgetting their match at Night of Champions in 2011), let alone 2. Punk says the time for talking is over and rushes the ring. Vince and Stephanie hightail it as Punk tackles H to the ground. A brawl ensues and eventually Vince calls security out to break it up. Punk busts Triple H open with punches and smiles as he licks the blood from his taped fists.
The next week on Raw, Triple H comes out and says that he has had some time to think and he will give Punk a rematch at Extreme Rules, but only if they make it No DQ. Punk comes out and agrees with no hesitation.
Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman also make an appearance, talking about how proud they are for destroying the Undertaker. The lights go out and everyone thinks Undertaker’s coming to exact some revenge on Heyman and Brock. Then the Titantron opens to show a door opening and Goldberg’s music hits.
Goldberg emerges from the room and walks to the ring with purpose. He tells Lesnar that he got the better of him last time at WrestleMania 20, but he felt like Lesnar was holding back. He challenges him to a match at Extreme Rules, which Lesnar accepts. Goldberg goes to walk away, before turning around and spearing Lesnar. He laughs and walks away as Heyman screams at him.
While all this was going on, Randy Orton invoked his rematch clause against Daniel Bryan for Extreme Rules.
At Extreme Rules, Goldberg and Lesnar square off in a match that’s far and away better than their initial encounter. Lesnar gets the win after Paul Heyman distracts Goldberg as he was setting up for a Spear. Lesnar grabs him for the F5 and the win. That brings them to a tie at 1 match each, leaving the door open for a decider match down the line.
The Intercontinental Championship is on the line when Big E Langston faces off against Brodus Clay, who’s returned after taking some time off. Brodus is now a full-blown heel and still thinks he’s a main event player. Big E manages to get the win with an impressive Big Ending. Brodus attacks him after the match before Mark Henry makes the save, setting up a future feud between them.
All 3 former member of The Shield face off in a triple-threat match. Each man gets in their own brand of offense in, with Reigns obviously dominating most of it. Surprisingly, Rollins gets the win when Ambrose hits the headlock driver on Reigns and bends down to taunt him when Rollins hits the Blackout out of nowhere.
Paige defends the Divas Championship against Natalya and retains easily.
Kofi Kingston defends his US Championship against Fandango in another rematch, and retains.
Punk defeats Triple H in a long match where Vince and Stephanie try to interfere, but Punk sends them on their way.
In the main-event, Daniel Bryan retains the championship against Randy Orton with a running knee, solidifying himself as the Undisputed Champion.
Payback
Punk comes out the night after Extreme Rules with a big smile on his face. He says he got what he wanted, so now he’s setting his sights back on the 1 thing he wants – the WWE World Heavyweight Championship – which brings out Daniel Bryan.
They shake hands. Bryan says that Punk got screwed back at Elimination Chamber and deserves a shot. He says he’s happy to give him a Championship match, which brings out Kane and Brad Maddox. Kane says he can’t deny that Bryan’s the champion, but he’s not in charge of making matches. Kane says there will be a Beat the Clock Challenge tonight to determine who will face Bryan at Payback. The matches will be:
- Brodus Clay vs Mark Henry
- Sheamus vs Antonio Cesaro
- Alberto Del Rio vs Jack Swagger
- Randy Orton vs CM Punk
The first 3 matches set times with Antonio Cesaro beating Sheamus in 4:21 to set the record.
Randy Orton and CM Punk fight to 4 minutes and as Punk’s about to put Orton away, Kane comes out and Chokeslams Randy Orton to give him the DQ win and the title shot at Payback. Punk’s enraged and chases after Kane. He attacks him backstage and they brawl as superstars and referees try to break them up.
The next week on Raw, a match is made between Punk and Kane for Payback.
At Payback, the US Championship is on the line when Kofi Kingston takes on Seth Rollins in a ladder match. Rollins gets the win and the title after some great spots.
The Intercontinental Championship match is made, where Big E Langston takes on Bray Wyatt, who decided to target Big E Langston and the Intercontinental Championship. Bray gets the win after some interference from Luke Harper and Erick Rowan and wins the title.
Paige defeats AJ in a Street Fight for the Divas Championship.
The Tag-Team Championships are on the line as The Uso’s take on The Ascension, who have recently debuted and won a number 1 contender’s tornado tag-team match on Raw. The Ascension win the titles after pinning Jey Uso with their double-team finisher, Downcast.
Punk vs Kane is next. After a lot of back and forth and some nearfalls, Punk manages to get the win with a GTS.
The main-event sees Bryan drop the title to Orton after some outside interference from the debuting AJ Styles.
King Of The Ring
King of the Ring makes a triumphant return this year. The winner of the tournament receives a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Money in the Bank. The competitors in the tournament are Antonio Cesaro, Sheamus, Punk, Mark Henry, John Cena (returning after a few months away), Rey Mysterio, Dean Ambrose, and Big E Langston.
Ryback decides to challenge Goldberg because he’s sick of the Goldberg chants that are still happening. Goldberg accepts and says that Ryback’s just a poor imitation of him.
Orton gloats about his win over Daniel Bryan. Bryan interrupts and says that he still has his rematch and he plans to use it at King Of The Ring. AJ Styles interrupts and attacks Bryan again, laying him out on the ramp. The following week, Kane makes the rematch official, but adds AJ Styles to the match to make it a triple-threat.
Goldberg defeats Ryback with a spear and jackhammer.
The winner of the King of the Ring is CM Punk when he defeats John Cena in the final. The other contenders are automatically entered into the Money in the Bank ladder match next month for a shot at the title.
Orton defeats Bryan and Styles in the main-event when Bryan hits the running knee on Styles and Orton shoves him outside to pin Styles.
Money In The Bank
CM Punk comes out the night after KOTR and says that he can’t wait to take back the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after a long time away from it. Orton comes out and says that Punk has no chance.
The Money in the Bank match features all the other contenders from the King of the Ring tournament:
- Antonio Cesaro
- Sheamus
- Mark Henry
- John Cena
- Rey Mysterio
- Dean Ambrose
- Big E Langston
The winner of the Money in the Bank ladder match is Antonio Cesaro, who can now challenge for the title any time he wants.
At Money in the Bank, Orton beats Punk after a low blow and a punt to the head (giving Punk a break for a few months). The PPV ends with Antonio Cesaro coming out and holding up the briefcase as Orton looks on in disgust.
SummerSlam
The SummerSlam main event is set early on with Antonio Cesaro declaring that he will cash in his title shot at the event.
John Cena comes out on Raw and cuts a promo about needing someone fresh to face off against. AJ Styles answers the call and their match is set for SummerSlam.
Daniel Bryan talks about overcoming the odds and such. This brings out Paul Heyman who says that most people have odds to overcome, but most of them can’t overcome this…Brock Lesnar! He comes out and destroys Bryan, setting up a match at SummerSlam.
Brock defeats Bryan after Paul Heyman interferes and helps him get the win with a distraction.
John Cena defeats AJ Styles by pinfall after a hard-fought back and forth match.
Antonio Cesaro defeats Randy Orton in the main-event to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion in a star-making moment at the 2nd biggest PPV of the year.
Night Of Champions
Randy Orton invokes his rematch clause against Antonio Cesaro for Night of Champions. John Cena and Daniel Bryan also want title shots, so Kane makes a fatal-4-way match for the title at the PPV to test the new champion, Cesaro.
Cesaro wins the fatal-4-way match, pinning Randy Orton after he punt kicks Bryan and throws Cena over the top rope.
Hell In A Cell
Cesaro comes out and says that he’s honoured to hold the title. All the men in the match last night put on a hell of a showing. He wants to be a fighting champion, so he’s asked to have a 6-pack challenge at Hell in a Cell, inside the cell itself! The participants end up being John Cena, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles and a surprise entrant (to be named at the PPV).
All the guys come out at the PPV, and the surprise 6th man turns out to be a returning CM Punk. The match is elimination-style and it ends up c0ming down to Daniel Bryan and Antonio Cesaro as the last 2. Cesaro gets the win with the Neutraliser after a long match.
Survivor Series
Punk comes out the night after Hell in a Cell. He talks about Orton putting him out of action. Punk wants revenge because eliminating Orton last night wasn’t enough. Orton comes out and tells Punk that he’s welcome to come and get him any time, any place.
Punk challenges Orton to a 5-on-5 elimination match at the PPV, which Orton accepts. The teams end up being Orton, Alberto Del Rio, Ryback, Sheamus and Dean Ambrose vs CM Punk, Mark Henry, Christian, Big E Langston and Dolph Ziggler.
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship match is Antonio Cesaro against Daniel Bryan in a Falls Count Anywhere match.
John Cena is challenged by Brock Lesnar who wants a rematch from Extreme Rules 2012.
The 5-on-5 match comes down to Punk and Orton with Punk getting the win by submission with the Anaconda Vice.
Brock Lesnar defeats John Cena with an F5.
Daniel Bryan defeats Antonio Cesaro by DQ when Leo Kruger makes his debut and attacks Bryan.
TLC
Daniel Bryan comes out and talks about Leo Kruger getting involved in his match at Survivor Series. Kruger comes out and says he was tired of seeing Bryan get shot after shot while he stayed in NXT. He challenges Bryan to a tables match at TLC, which Bryan accepts.
Antonio Cesaro is told that the winner of a Battle Royal later on in the night will determine his next challenger. Sheamus wins the battle royal and stares down Cesaro (who was on commentary) to end Raw.
At the PPV, Cesaro defeats Sheamus in a TLC match to retain the title.
Daniel Bryan loses to Leo Kruger in a tables match when Kruger pushes Bryan off a ladder as he was going for a dropkick. Bryan crashes through 4 tables stacked outside the ring to lose the match.
