Major League Wrestling has been around for years and finally got a major television deal with beIn Sports in April of this year. Since debuting, they have provided very strong ratings for the network and it is the crown jewel of their Friday night lineup. So much so that beIN Sports has allowed MLW to go live tonight at 8 EST. Today, I preview those matches and provide some predictions for each.
Dragon Lee vs. DJ Z
While strangers to the MLW crowd, both are not strangers to the big stage and wrestling fans. Dragon Lee has won many titles in CMLL, and has been a top contender for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title in New Japan and the Television title in Ring Of Honor. DJ Z has been a multiple time X-Division champion and tag team champion in Impact Wrestling. This will be an absolute spotfest from start to finish. While DJ Z will be up for the fight, I feel Dragon Lee will go over. WINNER: Dragon Lee
Rush vs. Rich Swann
Rush made his long anticipated debut in the United States with MLW in Chicago against Sammy Guevara in the main event of last week’s “MLW Fusion”. After the match, he called out his longtime rival in CMLL and MLW star LA Park. While in Miami, he won’t get LA Park, he’ll get a very game Rich Swann. Swann is back in MLW after suffering a concussion at a taping in New York City and is a top contender for the MLW World Middleweight title. Rush will continue his quick ascent to the top of the MLW rankings with a convincing win over a tough competitor in Rich Swann. WINNER: Rush
4-Way Ladder Match for the MLW World Middleweight Championship: Andrew Everett vs. Desmond Xavier vs. Jason Cade vs. Kotto Brazil
This was originally a 5-way ladder match for the title until the champion that just recently vacated the title, Maxwell J. Friedman, fractured his elbow last month and has still not been cleared to wrestle. This match features 2 MLW talents in Brazil and Cade, a current Impact star in Xavier, and a former Impact star and current freelancer, Everett.
Cade has developed quite the mean streak since splitting up with former Team TBD tag partner Jimmy Yuta. It might not be a coincidence that a win streak has also followed. Brazil, another MLW talent, has been on a roll since gaining some confidence from being on a War Games team in September that featured Tommy Dreamer, Johnny Impact and Shane Strickland. Xavier and Everett are both new to MLW, but not new to ladder matches or specialty matches as both have competed in Ultimate X matches while in Impact Wrestling. I’m going to go with the, probable, longest shot in the match, Kotto Brazil, to win his first major title in MLW. WINNER, and NEW MLW World Middleweight Champion: Kotto Brazil
You can check out the 1-hour “MLW Fusion” special this Friday night, December 14th at 8 EST on beIN Sports. You can also check it out, a day later, on MLW’s YouTube channel, at 6:05 P.M. EST.
