On Tuesday night AEW held a rally/press conference in Jacksonville, new information, superstars and shows were revealed. For anyone that missed it here’s a rundown on the main takeaways from the press conference
Y2J is AEW
The biggest name that appeared in my opinion was Chris Jericho, it was towards the end of the rally and you heard Fozzy’s song Judas and then Y2J walked out on the stage and announced that he was “All In with All Elite Wrestling”.
It had been rumoured for months that Jericho would be involved with AEW and despite his involvement with NJPW, it’s still a very surreal feeling to see him work with another company that isn’t WWE. I’m intrigued to see what Jericho’s role is in AEW and who he could face in future shows.
PAC is back
Another new signing to AEW is former WWE Star Neville now known as PAC, he interrupted a promo by Hangman Page and it seems that they will be feuding for the AEW Heavyweight Championship in the near future.
Double Or Nothing
On May 25th 2019 AEW will hold it’s first PPV inside the MGM arena in Las Vegas titled Double Or Nothing. Nothing regarding the card has been announced yet, but looking at what was teased at the press conference we’ll likely get Hangman Page Vs PAC.
MGM arena holds just over 16,000 so it’ll be very intriguing if they’re able to sell out. It was also announced that a 2nd show will take place in Jacksonville in July with proceeds from tickets sales benefiting victims of gun violence.
No TV Deal
Nothing has been announced yet for a TV deal, however from what I know, AEW are in talks with TV companies about airing their product and they have trademarked Tuesday night dynamite so we’ll hopefully know more in the upcoming weeks.
Equal Pay for All
Brandi Rhodes announced that both male and female competitors will be paid equally, this of course is a landmark step in equal rights. Huge props to AEW for doing this, however I still wonder if top talent like Jericho or PAC will still earn more just based on their name value.
MJF, Janela and Ford Sign
The only other 3 in ring talents that appeared during the press conference that weren’t The Elite, SCU, PAC or Jericho, were MJF, Joey Janela and Penelope Ford. MJF was cutting a promo and Janela would attack him from behind with a crutch. For those who aren’t aware all 3 appeared at All In!
