Hello, it’s me TWB and I am your predictions guru for this Sunday’s Hell In A Cell PPV, I will bring you my picks for what I consider to be the 4 marquee matches from this weekend’s card.
So let’s get started…
Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton – Hell in a Cell Match
This feud has been really compelling to watch, Orton and Hardy began their rivalry at the Extreme Rules PPV back in July, where Orton would assault Hardy (who had just lost his US Championship) and for the following two months, both men have traded attacks on each other, one including Orton pulling on Hardy’s earlobe, and another where Jeff would hit a Swanton Bomb off the stage onto Orton, reminiscent to their feud back in 2008.
It’s incredible to think that despite his daredevil nature this will be Jeff’s first ever Hell In A Cell match, and I’m expecting a big spot which will prove pivotal to the conclusion of the match. I’m predicting both men will somehow escape the cell and Jeff will hit a Twist Of Fate, then place a prone Orton onto the announcer’s table. In his high-risk high-reward style, Jeff will climb up the cell wall straight to the top and go for a Swanton Bomb. Just as everyone thinks that Hardy will connect with his finisher, Orton like the viper he is will slither off the table, and Hardy crash straight through it. Orton then carries an unconscious Hardy into the ring and pin him for the win.
Winner – Randy Orton
Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair – Smackdown Live Women’s Championship
This is the best-built feud heading into this Sunday’s PPV, Becky Lynch seemingly turned heel at Summerslam, attacking her former best friend Charlotte Flair. (who had just pinned Lynch for the Women’s Title in a triple threat that also featured Carmella) For the last few weeks, both women have traded insults and attacks with one and other, with Becky having the upper hand. As I previously mentioned Becky seemingly turned heel at Summerslam.
However, she is still garnering a face reaction, whereas Charlotte is being portrayed by the audience as a heel in this rivalry, which I’m not sure was in WWE’s intentions when this feud started. This one could go either way, a match between the two has already been announced for the Super Show Down event in Australia and then the rumoured Evolution PPV card also features Charlotte and Becky facing off against each other.
Anyway, because of that reason and the fact she is on a roll at the moment, if she stays a heel she needs to keep that momentum I’m predicting Becky Lynch will become the new Smackdown Live Women’s Champion.
Winner and New Champion – Becky Lynch
AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe – WWE Championship
Much like most of this Sunday’s card, this match is another tricky one to pick a winner. On one hand, you have AJ Styles who is getting close to a year-long title reign, and potentially breaking CM Punk’s record number of days as WWE Champion. Then, on the other hand, you have Samoa Joe a vicious and sadistic heel who has fallen short in numerous big matches since joining the main roster, and another defeat for the Samoan Submission Machine could prove pivotal.
At their Summerslam meeting, Styles got himself disqualified, after snapping and hitting Samoa Joe with a steel chair who cut a mid-match promo aimed at AJ’s wife and daughter. Over the last few weeks on Smackdown, their promos have mainly been about how AJ is a ‘bad’ father and husband. I find this a bit of a pity, as both men are phenomenal wrestlers and it oddly feels like the Nakamura/Styles feud, where the weak storyline and build for the match-ups overshadow their in-ring abilities.
As I said in my Summerslam predictions article, AJ is also the cover athlete for WWE 2K19 and from a marketing standpoint, it’d make sense for Styles still being WWE Champion at time of release. So on that basis and the possibility of AJ breaking Punk’s record, and then holding the title until Wrestlemania, AJ Styles will defeat Joe at Hell In A Cell.
Winner – AJ Styles
Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman – WWE Universal Championship: Hell in a Cell Match
I could see this being the match of the night, both men have excellent chemistry together and as long as the crowd don’t turn on what I presume will be the main event, we could be in for a match of the year contender. I expect chaos and carnage, Reigns may spear Braun through the cell wall, Braun could powerslam Reigns through the cell but whatever happens, it will be exciting.
Then you have the added dimension of Hell In A Cell icon Mick Foley, as special guest referee. I don’t expect Foley to take a massive bump in this match however, I can see him proving crucial to the finish of the match.
There’s almost a guarantee that Ambrose and Rollins will interfere and try to help Reigns, and then Strowman’s buddies Dolph and Drew will even the odds in this melee. I think Foley will throw the 4 men that aren’t in the match out and an angry Braun will put his hands on the referee for Reigns to try and save Foley by setting up for a spear. Braun will then sidestep and Roman connects the spear with Foley for Braun to powerslam Reigns but with the referee laid out, acting GM Corbin will run out and make the cover and by nefarious means, Braun will become the new Universal Champion.
Winner and New Champion – Braun Strowman
