#TheWrestlingGuild Predicts: Slammiversary 2018 (@stoughe)

Im sure you all know by now that the Wrestling Guild Podcast guys drop a weekly Impact Wrestling review show every Thursday as a part of the SLTD Podcast Network, but this week they are also doing something a little different.

Fow the first time they are stopping the talking and starting the writing with their Slammiversary Predictions. So, join Nick and Chris as they run down the PPV card.

Tessa Blanchard vs Allie

Nick: As much as I would love Allie to win, I still think Tessa will win this match. She needs it and she has the potential. Tessa has not really been winning her matches lately as well, which also would make it more logical for her to win. And lastly, she needs to show us, the viewers what she actually goes for. If she can not beat Allie, she won’t be recognized as a strong wrestler.
Winner: Tessa Blanchard

Chris: This match does in no way come with any stakes other than prestige. Allie is coming back from losing her title to Su Yung and Tessa from a losing streak against Madison Rayne. Allie will, of course, be the favourite with the crowd due to Slammiversary being in Canada, but Tessa will lose too much steam by being laid out once again. To build up a female heel, who can talk, which is what Impact needs, Tessa must win this match. Allie can handle the loss.
Winner: Tessa Blanchard

Tag Team Championship (5150 Street Fight): OGz/King vs LAX/Konnan

Nick: It hard to predict this one as both teams are strong and none of them will stand down. I personally prefer LAX/Konnan as I like Konan’s personality and the way he interacts with other people. However, I think it is more important for OGz/King to win than LAX/Konnan. Because if Konan’s team wins, the whole storyline with Konnan and King will end. While it could continue if King takes the win. I, therefore, see a higher chance of King winning as I think Impact still want to continue this interesting storyline.
Winner: OGz/King

Chris: As with many of the matches on this card it is extremely difficult to predict this one. The winner also walks away with the titles and those are some high stakes for a match such as this. It is important that neither team loses face here. OGz has more to lose because they are returning and have only defeated a jobber team. LAX loses the titles but might seem weak in the process. It is extremely important that Homicide and Hernandez, who will have the crowd on their side, get a win here to cement their status as a badass team. It might hurt LAX, but it needs to happen for other face teams to be able to get to the dance. If LAX win here, who are they going to face? Desi Hit Squad, I don’t think so.
Winners: OGz by shenanigans

X Division Championship: Brian Cage vs Matt Sydal

Nick: Most people will predict that Brian Cage will win as he is stronger, taller and bigger. However, that is not the case anymore as Matt Sydal has been practising and showing us a lot of progress throughout 2018. I, therefore, think Sydal will take this win to, both gain trust from us viewers but also create or continue a storyline between Sydal and Cage.
Winner: Matt Sydal

Chris: What to do here? Cage has been on a tear through the company, only losing to Sydal by count out, and it is evident that Impact sees a lot in him. Is he ready for championship gold though? Sydal has been awesome throughout 2018 and his work with Jimmy Jacobs has finally taught him how to talk. The Sydal who spouts karmic bullshit is much better than anything other companies dreamed up for him. Yet, Cage is a machine and it seems as if the year of build should be crowned by a title. This will probably end with some involvement from Kongo Kong again, and so Cage will lose to go on to bigger things.
Winner: Matt Sydal by outside interference

House of Hardcore Rules: Eddie Edwards vs Tommy Dreamer

Nick: To be fully honest, I would like to see Tommy Dreamer win this so that Eddie Edwards understands that he is not unbeatable. However, Tommy does not really stand a chance against Eddie which is why I’m sure that Eddie sadly will win. The only thing that I’m worried about if the match does not play out as a brutal and hard-hitting match. If it does not deliver, there will be huge disappointments.
Winner: Eddie Edwards

Chris: This is a no-brainer. Edwards is so good in this new dark heel persona that stopping his momentum by having him lose to an out of shape Tommy Dreamer would be foolish. Normally the face would go over in a feud like this, but no one has anything to gain by doing so. Hopefully it will as brutal as it needs to be, with bloods, guts, fingers and toes, to quote ICP. Question is where Edwards goes from here though, Moose?
Winner: Eddie Edwards

Mask vs Hair: Pentagon jr vs Sami Callihan

Nick: After all of Sami Callihan’s tricks and ambushes I think there is a high chance of Pentagon jr taking this win. Callihan shows no sign of respect towards the luchadors and I think it is time for him to stop winning matches and treating others like nothing. What goes around comes around. And at the same time, I do not think Pentagon is willing to relive his identity to the world just yet.
Winner: Pentagon jr

Chris: This has all the qualities of becoming the show stealer this night. I don’t think anyone believes that Calliahn will win this. Pentagon would never allow his mask to be lost in Impact since he is just now making a name for himself in the wrestling business. Other luchadors who have lost their masks were well established in both Mexico and the US before that happened. Callihan’s hair, while nothing to write home about, is not high stakes in this match. It will be brutal and an awesome match, but the outcome has already been decided.
Winner: Pentagon Jr

Taiji Ishimori vs Fenix vs Rich Swann vs Johnny Impact

Nick: I could see anybody winning this match. However, there is a slightly higher chance of Rich Swann winning, as he has been progressing a lot in a short time. If Impact would give the win to Rich, he would recognize a real professional wrestler. But you can not forget that Johnny Impact has been gone for a good time and giving him a good start would give even better consequences. I therefore think they will give the win to Johnny.
Winner: Johnny Impact

Chris: This is really anybodies match to win. I don’t think there is anyone who won’t think that this won’t be a real showstopper. There are so many talented competitors in this match that half would have been enough. That being said, it is difficult to predict the winner here. It would be wrong to have any one of them to not come out on top. Swann has already lost twice since arriving and needs the win, unless he is not signing with Impact. Ishimori is returning as the vile Bone Soldier from New Japan and it could be imperative that he comes out on top so as not to lose face. Fenix has been putting on a clinic in Impact and is the one who truly could afford to lose out here, but to what end? Jonny Impact is also just returning and could stand to get a win. It is all very up in the air and is of course related to where they are taking the wrestler next. In the end, the bigger competitor, who also happens to be the fan favorite might just have to take it.
Winner: Johnny Impact

Knockouts Championship: Madison Rayne vs Su Yung

Nick: Even though Madison Rayne has been improving herself and impressing me countless times, I do not think it is enough to take Su Young down. If Yung gets defeated she will look weak as she has not participated in a lot of matches. So when she at least has a match she needs to win it.
Winner: Su Yung

Chris: The reign of Su Yung is by no means at an end. Madison Rayne has been more impressive in recent months than she has ever been in her entire career. That is saying a lot for a female wrestler who was most active during a time that TNA boasted Gail Kim, Tara, Angelina Love and Awesome Kong. A lot will have to happen for Rayne to take this home and become a six time KO champ. She is already going for the ROH women’s title as well and she should focus on that. Su Yung and her reign still has a lot of legs and I believe Impact will keep the belt on her.
Winner: Su Yung

World Heavyweight Championship: Austin Aries vs Moose

Nick: I can not really predict this match. Austin has not really been winning a lot and same goes for Moose. I would prefer Austin winning rather than Moose as I personally think he deserves it. This will be on of those matches that will be very interesting and intense to watch.
Winner: Austin Aries

Chris: Of all the title matches this one is by far the most difficult to predict. There are so many parameters that need to be considered and it is also all about in which direction the company is going to go. Moose has vowed to capture the gold before 2018 is over and this is his opportunity. Aries has just returned to being that which he does best, being a heel. An arrogant cocky one, which is also the face he is best at being. He is a great ambassador and a household name and that is his power. It’s not like Moose is not known by wrestling fans, or marks, but with Aries as champ, he is recognizable to WWE fans as well. Moose does not hold such equity yet. With Aries winning who would he face? Who is next in line for a title shot? It is a short list; Fenix, Pentagon Jr & Jonny Impact. With Moose it gets more interesting; Eli Drake, Sami Callihan, Kongo Kong and my personal favorite Eddie Edwards. Therefore:
Winner: Moose
