TNA’s first big PPV of the year is this Sunday (9th March) at LockDown, and there will be a few new faces appearing. As well as the new faces I mentioned last week, a whole host of people have been added to the PPV.
They’re from Wrestle-1 over in Japan. On TNA’s recent trip to Japan, specifically on a joint show with Wrestle-1, a few of the belts changed hands too. I’m not sure how much info you’ve seen, or if you’ve read any reports, but I believe the show will be a One Night Stand PPV. I won’t go into too much detail, but the X-Division and Tag-Team Championships changed hands at that show.
There’s a lot of respect out there for Japanese wrestlers. They have commitment and drive that you rarely see elsewhere, and they always put on a show that’s at the next level. After the trip to Japan, it seems like some of their top guys are returning the favour to appear at LockDown.
For the first time in a long while, the powers-that-be in TNA have got the product working, and the fans – myself included – are hooked. The product itself has improved so much in the last 5/6 months it is almost unrecognisable. A lot of people out there still have nothing but hatred for anything that isn’t WWE. I really don’t understand why. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.
We’re going to get the classic Good vs Evil Lethal LockDown match, which is something that I’m looking forward to. There’s a split in the ranks between Dixie Carter and MVP, and there’s been a real shift in the way the talent are working. Whereas before you weren’t really sure whether a wrestler was a heel or a babyface, they’ve really made it obvious now.
A few of you out there are also looking forward to the return of Jeff Hardy. I am too, but I’m just not convinced by the persona he’s returning with. For all I know, we’re not supposed to know that Willow is Jeff, but he’s used the character before.
There’s been a real mix of matches announced, but which one are you most looking forward to watching? I’m eagerly awaiting the result of the Lethal LockDown match, even if Dixie’s team don’t seem to have too much going for them, compared to MVP’s team.
Here are the matches that have been announced for LockDown (courtesy of the official TNA website) :
- TNA World Heavyweight Championship: Magnus (c) vs Samoa Joe
- Lethal Lockdown: Team Dixie vs Team MVP
- Last Man Standing Match: Gunner vs James Storm
- Kurt Angle vs Ethan Carter III
- TNA Knockouts Championship: Madison Rayne (c) vs Gail Kim
- Mr Anderson vs Samuel Shaw
- Manik vs Tigre Uno
- Great Muta, Senada & Nakanoue vs Bad Influence & Chris Sabin
And there’s your PPV card. A very exciting one I think, but that’s just my opinion.
What do you think about TNA’s new direction? If you’ve got anything to say about that, or any of the other topics I’ve mentioned, feel free to leave a comment below or catch me on Twitter. I’m @ecwdave
