TNA: Out With The Old…

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything for you guys, but I’m back and ready for the new year in wrestling!

As we probably all know by now, there have been a few changes in TNA lately. Jeff Jarrett parted with the company before Christmas, but the most significant loss has been AJ Styles.

I’m sure some of you out there are disappointed that AJ’s gone. I am too. He was undoubtedly one of the best talents they had, even if he hadn’t been used as well as he could have been recently.

With that being said, I’ve got to say that his last match in TNA was one of the best that I’ve seen in a very long time. It was painfully obvious that there was going to be a lot of interference to help Magnus win. All the faces had been taken out during the show, leaving only Sting to help out. With a never-ending amount of people coming out to help Magnus, AJ really showed why he’s one of the best in the business. If you haven’t seen the match, then check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of logic right now in TNA.

The UK’s own Magnus is now the TNA World Champion and the winner of British Boot Camp, Rockstar Spud, has a major role on-screen as Dixie Carter’s right-hand man.

Then there’s the Blossom Twins. They seemed to have the ability to make it over in America, but we only ever saw Hannah used on Impact. Now they’ve both left the company and I’m struggling to understand why. If they’re pushing the UK guys so hard, then why were the girls left behind?

I hope it’s not some kind of fall-out from when “the Immortal One” was in TNA, because I believe it was him who pushed hard to get the Blossom Twins on the roster. Were they let go because he’s gone?

Talking about the rise of the British wrestlers in TNA, I have to mention the heel turns they’ve taken.

Spud makes a very good Chief of Staff and his size makes the character even better. Getting pushy before hiding behind someone else is very funny to watch, but how far will it take him? Magnus has been heel before and his stature really suits his in-ring demeanour.

I think it was a risky move though. With the UK tour almost on our doorsteps now, surely the safest thing to do would’ve been to have them return as heroes. Maybe it’ll work, maybe it won’t, but it’ll be interesting to watch!

With a heel faction now prominent in Impact, the one thing I have to ask is – where are they going to take it from here?

The way it’s set up right now, there’s a big roster split with the heels in control. Will there be a division in the ranks? It could work if it’s done right, but as we’ve seen before, the guys in control have a tendency to drop a story just as quickly as it started.

Who will be the big face to take Dixie on though? With AJ gone, maybe Samoa Joe could start the revolution. We’ll just have to wait and see…

Once we’ve seen the outcome of the 2-week Genesis tapings, we’ll have a better idea of where Impact’s actually going, but all in all, I like the way they’ve changed things up over the last few months. We’ll just have to hope that it’s a step in the right direction.
