Howdy peeps, The Voice of Reason back this week. For regular readers, apologies I was not able to get something up last week, but let’s get down to business. Triple H has had many fans and haters over the years, with the current casual fan hating him due to the evil power hungry tyrant he plays on Raw, and some die hard wrestling fans waiting on Hunter to take over from Vince in the hope we see more NXT like programming each week. All that being said, you can’t disregard his accolades and performances in the ring. Every match is guaranteed to be of a high quality and the promos speak for themselves. Think of it this way, there’s a reason Ric Flair regards Triple H so highly.
Die hard CM Punk fans will read that and think, no he’s not as great as he thinks. What you have to bear in mind is CM Punk was a main eventer, he didn’t need a feud with Triple H leading to his epic departure. Just like recent rumours suggesting Triple H is to take on Seth Rollins at SummerSlam this year, but in my opinion, this is also a wasted match. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a match I would love to see, because the promo, the psychology and the match itself will provide a tasty tale. But, if these two are to lock horns at the summers biggest event, it would mean Seth is to have a face turn. I am not totally against this, but Seth plays a great heel, the perfect, traditional heel. At the same time, Triple H only wrestles a few times a year (if that). He should only be utilised to get under performing or under utilised stars “over” which lets face it, Seth is over, and Seth is a main eventer.
So below is a potential list I would pit against Triple H at SummerSlam 2015. Superstars and wrestlers who I think need a serious feud and a match with one of the biggest names of the Attitude Era:
Roman Reigns
The first name on the list, and by no accident. This man definitely is most in need of a feud with Triple H. Roman Reigns has everything the WWE look for in a superstar and what most fans like. But something is just not clicking. Just as Roman seems to be getting over with the audience, he’s pegged back down in some fashion. To be honest, it feels like fans want him as far away from the WWE World Heavyweight Title as possible.
Perhaps a feud with The Cerebral Assassin is just what Roman needs. It has been teased before during The Shield v Evolution times, much to the audiences delight. A gruesome no disqualification match, with Roman standing tall against Triple H would go a long way to solidifying Roman Reigns as one of the companies biggest superstars. More importantly, it’s a chance for him to learn as well as an opportunity for us to see a different side of him.
Cesaro
A close second on the list for me is the King of Swing himself, Cesaro. The Swiss Superman is a strong fan favourite, one of the best in ring workers presently with the WWE. Vince says he’s not a star because he can’t carry promos as well as a “lack of personality”.
Only recently has Cesaro been featured more, forming a tag team with Tyson Kidd (another great worker). This has been great exposure for Cesaro, and we have seen his singles game get better and better because of it. For example, implementing the Sharp Shooter on Cena this past week on Raw. Matches like Cesaro had with Cena are exactly why he belongs on top, or at least a lot higher than he is. Initially I thought Cesaro would be a great heater for The Authority, but with the matches he could have, there is no way fans will want a heel turn.
Neville
A bit of a random choice here, well not really if you’re a fan of NXT. You have all (hopefully) seen how great Neville is in and around the ring. He essentially puts the entertainment in WWE. Although I hate the slogan “the man that gravity forgot”, Neville has always lived up to that name, which is why I was excited, and then disappointed, to see the MITB ladder match.
Nonetheless, Neville’s use on the main roster has not been ideal. Initially he started losing every match, with the theory that having great matches will get him over. I don’t disagree with that, but then why was Rusev undefeated for so long and still have good matches? Maybe a match with Triple H can show the universe that Neville is here for real, and with the size difference, we can get shades of Daniel Bryan v Triple H at Mania.
Ziggler
Dolph has always been a great worker and had great matches. I’ve always described him as this generations Shawn Michaels, and not just because of the long hair and the superkick. Dolph has not been utilised to his full potential. He needs a serious long term feud, which he has on and off with The Authority. He needs an opportunity to show he can hang with the big guns, and this is exactly what a match with Hunter will do.
I think this will give him the opportunity to show Vince, and Triple H first hand how great a worker he is. The WWE have great workers, and talent has never been an issue. They just need to give the right guys, the right opportunities to show them what they can do. Dolph is right up there.
That’s all from me folks. Back again next week.
