Tybo Talks… Ryder? Really!

Welcome one and all to this weeks Tybo Talks… I’m Tybo, and hopefully by now you know that I’m the ‘Five Star General’ of this operation we like to call SLTD Wrestling.

I’m sitting here drinking a can of Monster Rehab (I recommend the orangeade one if you have never had it) wondering how to best write this weeks Tybo Talks. I know what I want to say, but lets find out if I come out sounding like a moaning bitch, bitching about gimmicks and under utilised talent on the WWE roster.

So, here is my issue. I personally really don’t think Zack Ryder is a bad in ring talent. Do I think he could improve? absolutely I think very few wrestlers are perfect in the ring. Do I think he is good enough to be on the WWE roster? Totally! Whatever you want to say he has been there for a good few years now and its clear that Vince seen something in him, whether he still sees that something in him I don’t know. The thing I don’t like about Ryder is he has unfortunately become, in the nicest possible way… a joke!

Ryder debuted on Smackdown in 2007 with his then tag partner Curt Hawkins, it wasn’t long before they where part of the La Familiar story line with Edge and Vicky after playing a ‘twin magic-esc’ trick and impersonating Edge in a match against The Undertaker. This was a good push for Ryder but would unfortunately not keep him on top for long. After doing other bits and bobs here and there on TV it would be four years later in 2011 when the ‘Ryder Revolution’ would be his next big push.

After Ryder was basically pissed off with his standing in the company he would go to YouTube, and in no uncertainly terms start a revolution that would have many imitations from other wrestlers. And would without a doubt be the catalyst behind the WWE having a successful YouTube channel to this day. It was here that the ‘Long Island Iced Z’ show was born. Ryder would present the comedy short with sketched, star in the show and think up all the concept and edit the shows himself, and proclaim himself the ‘Internet Champion’. Well, that was until WWE saw the potential, saw the money, and basically rotted the show from the inside out by taking creativity away from Ryder and over editing the final product. But, Ryder would get a major push and win his first WWE singles championship, The U.S Title from this internet success.

But it all seems to have gone down hill from here, here lied my point. Why don’t they do ANYTHING with Zack Ryder?

He recently had a pointless U.S title match with John Cena, and then had a pointless NXT title match with Kevin Owens on the Smackdown after, and honestly am a Ryder fan but when his music hits even I think, Ryder? Really!

On a industry that is built on shocking the audience, and making them get off their seats and cheer or boo, why would you not try and get the fans to react in any way possible to every superstar. And right now there would be nothing more shocking than a darker more edgier Zack Ryder.

Bare with me here, I know what your all thinking, but if WWE was to repackage Ryder as a heel. I don’t mean him just snarling the good guy and nothing changes, or a ridiculous gimmick change were he is ninja. I mean a full repackage. Have him come out and bury a legitimate superstar to start a long worthwhile feud, something that could head into a U.S or IC Title match. Have him drop the ‘Long Island Iced Z’ gimmick and cut a genuine promo about being pissed of with where he is in the company and that he has nothing to lose. I honestly think it would work great! Have counter promos from opponents in shock at the new attitude, maybe be a little weary of him to get him over.

He could even start a feud with someone over who is the number one contender for the U.S/IC Title. This in my opinion would add both legitimacy to the feud and to the belt they are feuding over, without the belt even being involved in the match.

They could even pair him with a Diva who is not really doing much at the minute, Emma I think with her new attitude would be good to get them both over a little more. I personally think that is what WWE is really missing right now. A valet/manager that works with numerous members of the roster. As shocked as I am to write this, WWE is really missing the Vicky Guerrero character. Vicky would be a perfect heel manager to get someone like Ryder over with the crowd, who wants to break out and do something fresh and new. Weather you want to believe it or not, Vicky got Ziggler over as a heel.

I think, if something like this was to happen with Ryder, the night it happened the crowd would lose their shit! After a match were a face wins and is celebrating, Ryder does a run in and hits a new more devastating heel finisher and soaks in all the boos from the crowd. The commentary team in shock, and replaying the run in and not knowing why he did it. This would make you want to tune in to find out why. Over time this would make Ryder a stand out player in the WWE.

I have personally thought about this for a while for a few different superstars on the WWE roster, mainly Slater I’ll be honest. I can never get my head around why the WWE would pay someone to work the odd squash match when there is some sort of fan base out there? Surely you would want everyone working and trying to get over as much as they can in the business and the company?

If you don’t think Ryder could do it because his gimmick is to far gone and the crowd would never get behind believing that he is a legitimate bad ass, that’s fine. But, In my opinion the most intense, hard-hitting, legitimate wrestler on the TNA roster at the minute is Eric Young. Young has been in the same position Ryder is in now. Young has worked some awful gimmick including being a superhero, a guy scared of everything, and one half of the TNA Women’s Tag Team Champions. Not so long ago he was feuding with Kurt Angle for the TNA World Title, and not one person watching that feud thought that Young didn’t deserve to be there or has absolutely no chance of beating Angle because he was repackaged so well… and that was in TNA, imagine what WWE could do?

So, that’s it another Tybo Talks in the bag, I hope you enjoyed reading it.

Please comment below, as I love all sorts of feedback. If you love it or hate it, let me know. Its all opinions so you have heard mine, let me hear yours. Hopefully I didn’t come off as a moaning bitch about gimmicks.
