UK Wrestling by @Brad_SLTD

Ok, so it’s been a while since I wrote a post so I thought it was about time I got these fingers working again! But what to write about?

CM Punk elbowing a fan on Raw?

Who I think is behind Aces & Eights?

Then it hit me. The UK wrestling scene most notably Britannia Wrestling, Wrestle Midlands and Liverpool’s own Infinite Promotions. Now for anyone who follows @Greg_SLTD or myself (@Brad_SLTD) on twitter or follows our Facebook page, they will know over the last few months we have been on the road a lot. ( #SLTDonTheRoad ) There have on occasion been weekends where we have worked as many events as some of the wrestling stars, which is always fun. I think though that this is the first time I have wrote about my experiences at the shows, and why every chance I get on SLTD Radio I tell all our listener to get themselves to there nearest event.

I remember standing in the line to get into our first UK show (Infinite Promotions – 51st State of Emergency) the conversation went (something) like this –

Brad – I hope this ain’t shit!
Greg – Yeah, as long as there is no blatant gimmick infringement then we will be sound
Brad – Yeah, hope not! Is it wrong to say even though this is our first show, I think if its shit then I could be put of the UK scene
(I can be like that sometimes)
Greg – Well lets just give it a chance and see what the crack is! Go in with an open mind and then let’s see what happens!
Brad – Fair enough!

THE CARD –

The Models vs. Project Ego
El Ligero vs. Sam Bailey
Cyanide vs. The Babyfaced Pitbull
Josh Bodom vs. Sean Daniels vs. LA Austin

Shaun ‘The Hammer’ Davis is looking for a fight!

British Wrestling Premier League

Liverpool vs. Stoke
Zack Gibson vs. Marc Morgan

London vs. Wigan
James Mason vs. Jack Gallagher

Heavyweight Title Match
‘The Juice’ CJ Banks vs. Bubblegum

3hrs later the conversation went (something) like this –

Brad – Holy Hood Rat Sally Smoking Crack in The Alley, they literally blow the roof off the place, that was awesome!!
Greg – Yeah I think UK Wrestling just got proper interesting! When’s our next show!

That was pretty much the start of our little wrestling journey that has took over our blog and our podcast and right now we are working on something new for our you tube channel and there is one reason why! because from start to finish its a pure adrenaline rush!

Now we also saw the birth of the British Wrestling Premiere League, which has got better ever time we have seen a match up contested under these rules. The teams break down like this –

Team London – Zack Sabre Jnr., James Mason (Captain), Marty Scurll – Manager: Melanie Price

Team Leeds – Martin Kirby (Captain), Robbie Bell, Kris Travis – Manager: Des Robinson

Team Wigan – Jack Gallagher (Captain), Danny Hope, Joey Hayes – Manager: Ciarán McConnell

Team Liverpool – Zach Gibson, CJ Banks (Captain), Dan Evans – Manager: Christopher Egan

Team Manchester – Sam Bailey, Xander Cooper, RJ Singh (Captain) – Manager: Michael Fitzgerald

Team Stoke – Dean Allmark (Captain), Robbie Dynamite, Marc Morgan – Manager: Phillip Woodvine

Team Cardiff – Bubblegum (Captain), Mark Andrews, Mike Hitchman – Manager: Steve Saxon

Team Glasgow – Kid Fite, Noam Dar, Mikey Whiplash (Captain) – Manager: Charles Boddington

Now we have seen plenty of these Premiere League Matches and not one has disappointed, add to that watching guys like CJ Banks put on a wrestling clinic at Britannia Wrestling Promotions versus ROH legend Davey Richards. Shaun ‘TheHammer’ Davis facing off against Alex Cyanide in what can only be described as an epic! Marc Morgan develop from a green rookie to winning 2 titles in the last year, UK Wrestling Royalty Keith Myatt working the ring as if it where a tag team partner and most recently The tag team of Steve Saxon & Ciarán McConnell facing DJ King & Craig Winters in a Death Match, now there are pretty much no word to describe this death match you have to see it to believe it.

It’s really strange now because we go to a good few shows a month and there are still promotion we want to venture too but I will say that there has not been a show yet where @Greg_SLTD or myself (@Brad_SLTD) haven’t left and said to each other “That’s why I love UK wrestling”. The thing is though I am a huge WWE fan, always have been, always will be but when you are literally in the thick of the action (Thanks Lord Graham Thomas & Britannia Wrestling Promotions for that one) its a completely different feeling. Now I have been to my fair share of WWE live events and yes they are huge, yes they are all lights and explosions which is amazing. But when you get the same thrill from seeing guys wrestle in front of anything from 100- 500 people that says something able the talent. They don’t need all the theatre to put on a show, they go out to entertain fans of wrestling with wrestling matches and yes there is always a little theatre and comedy throw in but it is to enhance the plot or spot, not to fill 3hrs of TV (yes that was a little dig but I’m allowed)

Like I said earlier we are now solid regulars at Wrestle Midlands, Britannia Wrestling & Infinite Promotions and just to break kayfabe a little on this one whatever your opinions of the matches and the event all the guys in the back are there own biggest critics, they literally but it all on the line every night to do what they love to do. I would say to anyone who hasn’t been to a show near them yet get there! The UK wrestling scene is where every scout is and the talent that travels up and down this country is unreal!

I’m going to end there I think, but will be back soon with a few more views I’m sure.

In the meantime check us out every Thursday night on SLTD Radio and feel free to throw me a follow on Twitter @Brad_SLTD
