Hey all, great to be back on SLTD Wrestling this week, just a short one from me today.
The last few episodes of Monday Night Raw have seen Cesaro take on John Cena, after accepting the U.S. Open Challenge. This has always been a good opponent for Cesaro, to show off what he can actually do in the ring and give him maximum exposure. Those with good memories will remember when Cesaro took on Cena on Raw last year, to the same outcome of a great match, and Cesaro has been putting on great matches for a long time now. His in ring performance is enough to turn him into a main eventer, but as we have learnt with Ziggler, the man who deserves the main event doesn’t always get it.
So what exactly is holding back Cesaro? Most hardcore fans of WWE may immediately say Vince McMahon. Of course we are not always privy to all behind the scenes discussions, but from everything we know about Vince and from what he has said, it would be hard to argue with the evidence. When Vince did his podcast special interview with Stone Cold, he asked about Cesaro. He said that he felt something wasn’t clicking in terms of personality.
I get the perspective that the casual viewer is more likely to be intrigued by a Kevin Owens, Cena type promo, and that promos make you care about the story line and therefore the match. But if you’re a casual fan and you see someone like Cesaro having incredible matches, that in itself is a draw.
Cesaro is a rare talent that has been under utilised since he joined WWE, and that was proved with the triple threat match on Raw this week with Rusev and Owens (by the way how awesome was that match!)
Basically what I’m trying to say is Free Cesaro. Free. Him. Now.
Til next time and let’s hope Battleground will exceed expectations on Sunday.
