The much anticipated Money In The Bank PPV is only days away, coming to you live on the WWE Network for an undisclosed fee (lame plug). Although the go-home Raw was not as great as I expected it to be, I’m still very excited for Sunday, as essentially we will find out who will be the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion. That being said, catch my predictions below)
R-Truth v King Barrett (Pre-Show)
R-Truth almost stole the show this past week on Raw when he mistakenly thought that he was in the MITB ladder match. However now he ends up working a match on the pre-show with King Barrett. Not many people will be fussed about this match, not only because it’s on the pre-show but also because it doesn’t have that much meaning.
Personally, I don’t see the point of resurrecting the King of The Ring tournament if the winner is going to work almost pointless matches on PPV’s. If you’re going to make it mean something, then give Barrett a good spot with a more “serious” opponent.
Winner: King Barrett
The New Day v Prime Time Players
I’m genuinely excited for this match-up for the WWE Tag Team Titles. With Kofi being in the MITB ladder match, this will obviously be Woods and Big E defending for The New Day. PTP have looked great since their recent return and are building great momentum as the babyface tag teams, especially with Kidd injured (ruling out a reign for him and Cesaro).
The New day have worked well as the heel tag team but I do feel like their run is coming to an end. I would stick the titles on PTP while they are hot. This way you can have a few PPV rematches until Cesaro and Kidd make their inevitable return.
Winners: Prime Time Players
Nikki Bella v Paige
Since Wrestlemania, Nikki Bella has looked like she might drop the Divas title again and again. I was very surprised Naomi didn’t pick up the title with the heat and momentum, but it seems as though the WWE are going to wait until SummerSlam to show any real change. Not totally against this idea as I think it gives the Divas a bigger stage to work on and shows more impact. No doubt this will be a solid match, I just hope they give them enough time to work a well paced match.
Winner: Nikki Bella
Ryback v Big Show
An interesting match up for the Intercontinental Title, this being Ryback’s first title defence. Say what you want about Show, he is still a great worker and I believe he is being used a lot better as the heel giant who tries to take what he wants. This was proven by his last feud with Roman Reigns.
I don’t see Ryback dropping the title so quickly, but I don’t see a clean victory. My guess is either Big Show getting disqualified or a win by Ryback with Show kicking his ass after, leading to a rematch at the next PPV. Not expecting a hugely exciting match, hope to be surprised.
Winner: Ryback
John Cena v Kevin Owens
The match I am most looking forward to, more so than the MITB ladder match, which is a big statement. To me, this has felt like the first feud in a long time with some real meaning that is not for the title. A genuine intrigue, and to actually feel like Owens has a real hatred for everything Cena is and stands for.
I don’t see Owens taking a loss from Cena. I’m anticipating another great match and another shock victory for Kevin Owens. But it will be interesting to see if there’s a round 3 in this battle.
Winner: Fight Owens Fight
Money In The Bank Ladder Match
The match that will no doubt secure one superstars future, and will be eventually the WWE World Heavyweight Champion (excuse me sounding lame like Michael Cole but I couldn’t think of another intro).
Now if you want to read a breakdown of what role each superstar will play and why they are likely to win, read AOB’s post here.
My prediction? It has to be Roman Reigns. He is finally over with the crowd, turning into the superstar that everyone thinks he should be, and most of all, you can genuinely tell he’s enjoying himself in the ring. I’m hoping for a spectacle in this match.
Winner: Roman Reigns
Seth Rollins v Dean Ambrose
A rematch from the Elimination Chamber 2 weeks ago, where on paper, Dean Ambrose did pick up the victory. Recent weeks have been very interesting with Dean Ambrose running around with Seth’s championship, and Seth Rollins apparently ditching The Authority and branching out on his own.
I expect a great match, probably with some outside interference. But ultimately, I don’t expect the interference to affect the outcome of the match. I think for the first time since his reign began, Seth Rollins is going to pick up a clean victory as champion.
Winner: Seth Rollins
Other Thoughts
I guess this is in more hope, but what if, after Rollins picks up his win on Sunday, we hear the sound we’ve all been waiting for. The sound of Brock Lesnar’s music, coming out to deliver a thunderous F5.
Then comes the sound of “ladies and gentleman, my name is Paul Heyman…” – hey, we can all hope.
Til’ next time.
