The ‘Divas Revolution’ has been somewhat of a mixed bag. Inconsistent characters, stop-start pushes and odd booking of the women athletes has hurt the division at times. One performer that has seemed to get lost in the shuffle so to speak, is Becky Lynch.
After the initial arrive of Becky, Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair to the main roster, there was a lot of potential, but the unfortunate thing, mainly for Becky, is that she was paired with Charlotte and Paige straight away.
No disrespect to Becky, as I’m quite a fan of hers, but she was always going to be overshadowed by her fellow PCB members.
Once the PCB stable broke up, there was a chance for Becky to break out on her own, but instead she remained by the side of Charlotte, against the now heel Paige. This isn’t just the case for Lynch, it seems WWE have a real thing about keeping the women in pairs, for example the original 3 groupings were;
PCB – Paige, Charlotte, Becky
Team B.A.D – Naomi, Tamina, Sasha Banks
Team Bella – Nikki, Brie, Alicia Fox
Since then we’ve seen;
Becky and Charlotte
Paige and Natalya
Charlotte & Dana Brooke
Becky & Natalya
And now it seems as though Paige & Sasha are working together against Charlotte & Dana.
This is a strange move by WWE, so many talented women, yet they won’t let them flourish on their own. Whilst reasons for keeping Paige & Sasha Banks out of storylines completely for the past few weeks/months are unclear, what’s even stranger is the booking of Becky.
Her slogan is that of a ‘Lass Kicker’, but she never really seems to stand out, as ‘the E’ seem insistent on keeping her as a sideline to use for other feuds.
It’s time for Lynch to receive her own recognition and credibility.
Natalya turning on Becky at Money In The Bank, and then again on the June 20th edition of RAW made Lynch look even weaker, so WWE desperately needs to elevate her into the ‘Lass Kicker’ they so happily print on her t-shirts, and invest more time into her character development.
Fans needs to hear Becky Lynch’s entrance music, and know that they’re watching something special. As talented as a performer can be, if they aren’t being given anything meaningful to do, it’s really hard for fans to get behind them. Case in point, one of my personal favourites, Dolph Ziggler.
Where would I go from here with Becky?
I think we all know that at Summerslam, the Women’s Title match will be headlined by Sasha Banks challenging champion Charlotte. However going forward, the easiest option would be for Lynch to turn heel, however, I feel there are way too many heel divas right now, and I would enjoy seeing her participate in a ‘grudge match’ against Natalya at Battleground.
The programme with Natalya has a lot of steam in it, and the potential to run for a few more weeks, possibly even a submission match at Summerslam, basing on whether WWE would have two high profiled women’s matches on the card of course.
A Women’s title match wouldn’t be out of the question in the near future.
The draft will be the deciding factor in the direction of Becky, and personally, I would draft her to Smackdown as one of the main female competitors, but away from Charlotte, as I think there’s a danger of that rivalry becoming stale.
Certainly the draft will be the time to establish Lynch as one of the best in her division, make her the brightest star of the women’s competition.
The great thing about her is she could put on an entertaining bout against the majority of the women in WWE, so finding her an opponent for whom she shared chemistry wouldn’t be difficult.
Becky Lynch has her best years in WWE ahead of her, but they have to start somewhere.
Do you think the future is bright for Becky Lynch?
