WWE recently announced a slew of talent were being let go. Former Cruiserweight champion TJP and former NXT superstars Tye Dillinger and Hideo Itami. WWE stated they were simply released from their contracts.
Coupling with swirling rumours of other talent wanting to be released from their contracts, it seemed WWE decide to bite the bullet and let some people go in order to save themselves of losing any more. The biggest rumour was that Randy Orton, the multiple time World Champion and a mainstay in WWE for years, had been in talks with All Elite Wrestling.
That would be extremely intriguing if it were true, as Orton was once linked with Cody Rhodes in the stable known as Legacy. Rhodes is now an Executive VP under the new promotion.
You can see some recent moves were made to at least placate some on the roster who were rumoured to leaving. Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson, the Revival, recently became RAW Tag Team Champions and Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev have been put together as a team on Smackdown.
But as for Dillinger, Itami and TJP, there really wasn’t anything going for them as far as storylines were concerned. Itami and TJP have pretty much been sidelined on 205 Live (TJP was said to have had backstage heat and attitude problems) while Dillinger has not actually been on television during Smackdown Live in what seems like months.
So although there is no official word or anything that indicates that AEW would be looking to sign these three, it would be enticing for them to look at their options if the issue at WWE was creative direction. In my view amongst these three, Dillinger would most likely be enticed or open to going to AEW, as TJP’s ‘attitude issues’ might be a problem (and AEW already has a heelish asshole type in Maxwell Jacob Friedman (better known as MJF) and Itami would probably return to Japan as Kenta.
2019 is going to continue being the year we all watch if anyone from the most dominant wrestling company switch over to the most prominent disruptive competition WWE has seen in 20 years.
An average professional doing the 9-5 grind who really loves wrestling across all platforms. Here's hoping wrestlers finally get some basic workers rights in 2021.
