Finally WWE has made the right decision for the women’s division. At Wrestlemania 32 WWE laid the Diva’s title to rest. Lita gave a presentation at the start of Wrestlemania that showed off the beautiful new white title. The reason why it is so important is that it is exactly the same as the men’s title but in white. This is finally leaning towards equal opportunities in the WWE, I hope. NXT already started this with the NXT Woman’s title being wrestled in the main event of one of their PPV’s, now we have to hope that WWE could do the same for the main title, even though it’s a one in a billion chance.
NXT has pushed some of the best women wrestlers onto the main roster, and with the likes of Brie Bella retiring, Alicia Fox becoming less relevant and others coming to the end of their run, it is finally a new era in the business. This is much more important than a Diva revolution because we can finally move on and give the women in the business the respect they deserve.
At Mania one of the best matches on the card was the triple threat for the woman’s championship and it showed the best the division has to offer, besides Paige that is. Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks all showed what it takes to be a main event talent and didn’t need to focus on just beauty.
So why is it so important that WWE dropped Diva and embraced the ‘woman’ part of the division? It is purely down to equality and strikes a huge win in the column of showing that the women wrestlers deserve our respect. Over the last couple of months the women in NXT and the main roster have put on some of the best matches in the industry.
This year WWE has really struggled to make main event talent, however they have not struggled in the women’s division. The introduction of the Diva’s revolution was brilliant and was a strong step towards pushing the women’s division, however dropping the Diva from the title really starts to empower what this division could actually become. With the likes of Paige, Bailey, Charlotte, Becky, Sasha, Emma, Asuka, and a host of others coming onto the scene, the women’s division could become bigger than ever before.
It could, and should, introduce further titles. Why not introduce tag women’s titles and really push this revolution truly forward. What I do know is that someone at the top has decided to really push forward with this change, and I know I’m not the only one who says its about time.
