I haven’t made it a secret that I am not happy with Sheamus being this year’s “Mr Money in the Bank” and that having him winning the ladder match was, in my opinion, an awful move by the WWE. When I saw Sheamus’ return, after thinking “What have they done to him!” it was shortly followed by “Well this isn’t going to be fun is it?!” The whole heel turn, to me felt like it was done on a whim and that there was no real thought put behind it as he has been back for some time now and I still can’t tell you why he has actually turned. Now this may be because they haven’t properly explained this or it could be that when this was being explained I haven’t paid enough attention, which is possibly to do with the fact that I don’t find him very good in a ring.
When Seth became “Mr Money in the Bank” I understood it. I could clearly see where they were going and I knew that Seth would one day be the champ and was fine with that as he can hold himself in a ring and he has always been good to watch. You look at Sheamus though and I just can’t see him being a good champion. Now to be a heel, he has done exactly what you need to do, he’s came out pissed everyone off and just does what he wants to but that’s all I kind of see him being. When you look at certain people you can see them being the champ, if you look at Reigns and Ambrose you can see them being champ and being a good one at that but looking at Sheamus I don’t see this. I don’t think he has the ring presence and I don’t think he can cut a promo good enough to be the top dog and I just don’t understand why the WWE have gone in this direction and given him the MITB contract.
I know I haven’t been watching the years and years that most wrestling fans have been but I have watched a wide variation from the years and as you know there has only ever been two failed MITB cash-ins which makes me think are we due another one? Recently on the WWE website they have been running with a lot of fun facts and stats about the MITB contract which is leading me to think we are possibly seeing a cash-in sometime soon as it makes sense that this is the way that they are currently going, especially after the unfortunate incident on RAW a couple of weeks ago after Sheamus tried to cash in.
I think a failed cash in has to be the way that they are going with this, I think it makes the most logical sense as since Sheamus has returned he has been no where near getting an opportunity at the title and in my opinion I don’t think he actually deserves it. If you look back at past winners of MITB, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, Jack Swagger, Kane, The Miz just to name a few they have all, to me, got something that I just don’t see in Sheamus. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are loved by the crowd, Orton was a great champion numerous times, Swagger is great in the ring and deserves a lot more than he has had recently. Even The Miz and Kane can hold themselves in the ring and make good promos but with Sheamus I always find myself getting bored and not wanting to watch him.
When I heard about his match at last weeks SummerSlam against Randy Orton I was genuinely gutted. I love Orton in the ring and thought he deserved a much better match than with Sheamus although saying that having a match against the MITB winner is a decent match it’s just tainted as this happens to be Sheamus. When they had the first match of the night I was almost certain that we were going to see a cash in that night and that was how they would stop either Seth or Cena holding both titles, however we all know that didn’t happen and are still waiting for Sheamus to take his opportunity.
Now thinking about this logically can you actually see Sheamus having great matches? If you think of his SummerSlam match compared to Seth and Cena to me they are on two completely different scales. Orton as always was fantastic but Sheamus to me just falls flat each time and gets over powered by whoever he is in the ring with which is not how a champ should be. Look at Seth and Cena’s match and it was fantastic (maybe without the failed springboard stunner) and that is because they are both great champions!
Sheamus having the MITB contract can only end one way for me and that is by being the third failed cash in ever. I don’t think he is over what so ever with the crowd as the good guy or as the bad guy. Everybody hates Seth like they are supposed to although you still see people in the crowd wearing his t-shirts. The same with Cena, he’s boo’d every week yet you see a large part of the crowd wearing his stuff but I can honestly say I don’t think that I have seen anyone in a Celtic Warrior t-shirt.
Personally I think Reigns was penned as being the winner that night but last minute it was decided not to and Sheamus was the first person that they saw so thought why not! Whatever the reason is for him winning he did win. Would a failed cash in be the worse thing in the world for Sheamus? Probably! I mean you look a Damien Sandow he hasn’t had the best pushes in the WWE (lets not mention the Hulk Hogan one eh!) and he’s now at best just a jobber or someone to get the crowd going as unless your John Cena you probably won’t be able to make a come back from it. Which answers my own question really that he will, unfortunately, actually be the champion one day. How that happens am not entirely sure but lets just hope its a very short reign and we get to see a new champion on RAW rather than waiting a month for another PPV. Although saying that we could always have someone challenge him for the actual contract! My money would be on Orton for that one!
