Hey everyone, welcome to the latest ‘Wrestle Chica’. I just wanted to take a quick minute to thank everyone who took the time out to read my last post and for all the feedback I got for it. I wasn’t sure if this was going to be a regular thing or just a predictions post, but after all your fantastic support I had to do another one!
So as you have all already figured out, I am the first lady of SLTD Wrestling so I thought I would do what everyone is expecting and write about the WWE Divas, as in the past they haven’t always had positive things said about them. But with the revolution currently happening I think its the right time to do a post about them.
After Steph’s announcement on RAW the other week about how we are getting a Divas revolution and the whole “Give Divas a Chance” trend we had a couple of months ago, for the first time in a long time I can see people getting excited about the Divas, and its only right as they do actually deserve a lot more than they get. So who have we got in this revolution, and what do they actually have to offer?
BAD – Naomi, Tamina and Sasha Banks
Ok so first things first, this name is awful. I feel like it might be a little throwback to the old T and A days but it just isn’t the best. This for me is a little weird for a team to fight in the revolution and I don’t really see them as a team which to be honest is probably how this is supposed to be, seeing as these are the heels in the division.
First of all Tamina doesn’t fit in with them, but she wouldn’t fit in with any of them. I think the way Tamina is perceived as this powerhouse who is unstoppable, she shouldn’t be in a team. Yes this worked well when she was with AJ Lee, however she was always seen as being AJ’s bodyguard rather than her partner which is why I think that worked a lot better than this. She would be a lot better going it alone and being that powerhouse that everyone is scared of, kind of how Awesome Kong has been in TNA.
Naomi again I don’t really get. She has gone from the sweet adorable Mrs Uso, to them disappearing and her all of a sudden being angry about something and wanting to take that anger out on the Bellas. There was no real explanation as to why she was angry and now she’s just kind of turning up with an attitude. To me it feels very much like AJ Lee leaving was that much of a shocker, it was just “OK we need someone to go with Tamina, Naomi you’re married to her second cousin once removed, that will work” and it doesn’t. I think Naomi would have been a better fit on team Bella and Alicia Fox would have fitted better with Tamina as she already had that gimmick going for her.
Now to me Sasha Banks is definitely the star of this team and she will be carrying them slightly. I haven’t watched a lot of NXT but I do watch bits of it, and when I have seen her in the ring from being part of the BFF’s, to turning her back on Charlotte, to defeating her for the title she has always brought an excellent persona to the ring and leaves you wanting more. I think she’s going to go far in the WWE and I don’t think we have seen the best of her yet!
Team Bella – Nikki and Brie Bella and Alicia Fox
So I’m going to be completely honest from the beginning here; I am “Team Bella”, I have loved them since day one and think they do bring a lot to the Divas division. It also isn’t helped by my slight addiction to ‘Total Divas’, as come on they are the stars of the show! I think Team Bella is a great team and love their whole “you can’t sit with us” attitude, they are that bitchy team who you love and want to be a part of.
Brie has always been my favourite Bella, however since becoming the Divas Champion Nikki has slowly taken the lead. I think Nikki is a fantastic champ and has brought a new lease of life to the division, and has shown how a champ should be. I am really hoping that she actually gets to her 300 days as the champ. Nikki works hard and that shows in her matches, many of the “this is awesome” chants for divas matches have been when Nikki is in the ring. Also thanks to Nikki being the champ we are now getting to see a lot more variation in the title matches we are getting rather than the backwards and forwards we had of AJ and Paige for the year after Paige debuted.
I do feel a little sorry for Brie as lately I don’t think she is being given much other than doing the dirty work for Nikki. I can’t remember the last time Brie won a match, and she kind of just gets pushed into the matches Nikki doesn’t want to and basically just gets a beat-down so Nikki doesn’t have to. That being said though, that does say something about Brie. As much as people say she was shown up by the NXT Divas on this weeks RAW she played her part really well by getting them over as much as she could, like she always does in any of these squash matches she does.
So, Alicia Fox! What can I say about Alicia Fox. I loved her when she was on Total Divas and thought she did always steal the scene whenever she was in it but she use to annoy the life out of me when she was in the ring. I hated that whole “I want to win” attitude or the spoilt brat gimmick. Although that being said she hasn’t done that in a while but we also haven’t seen much of her since she joined Team Bella. I think she can do a lot more than they are giving her although she does need to loose the dancer points when she’s wrestling as that is slightly annoying. At the minute Team Bella are taking an almighty beat-down which makes me think we are going to be seeing something BIG from them in the next couple of weeks or even quite possibly at SummerSlam.
Paige, Charlotte and Becky Lynch
First I don’t like that these don’t have a name yet but am now secretly hoping that they will call themselves ‘Freaks and Geeks’ after Tybo saying it! I think these are a fantastic team and love that they are all NXT Divas! I am Team Bella however I do switch to Team Paige every now again as I absolutely love her! She’s fantastic in the ring, great on the mic and her entrance has to be my favourite one.
She is one of the best Divas on the roster and she brings a hell of a lot to the company. She has a passion for wrestling and that shows and I think that’s why this team works so well as they all have that. I have to admit when she was looking for someone to take down Team Bella a part of me did want her to find people and this might just be me wanting to stand up for the underdog or back up a fellow Briton, I don’t know, but I think that’s the joy of Paige. She is able to capture an audience so well.
Charlotte, like with Sasha I have only seen bits of her in NXT but there is no denying that she can wrestle. She brings something different to the ring with her personal trainer and volley ball background she can do things other diva’s just can’t do. I think Charlotte in the ring is never going to disappoint and I enjoyed her match with Brie on Raw and thought that it showed the audience something that they hadn’t seen from a diva before which is great to see and definitely needed in a revolution.
I haven’t seen much of Becky Lynch, I think the only match of hers I have actually watched is her against Bayley so I’m not sure what to expect from her yet, however I did watch a documentary on Finn Bálor before he became the NXT champ, and she was being interviewed as she trained in his wrestling school. The passion she has for wrestling was unbelievable and I think we are going to see big things from her as she comes across really well and has a lot of energy! I’m excited to see her first solo match since moving up to the main roster!
I think we have a major revolution on our hands and I just hope the WWE carry on with it and put a lot more time and money into the diva’s division, as I do think they deserve a lot more than they get. They all work hard to perfect their talent and its about time we get to that. If you don’t already, follow Nikki on Instagram as she’s starting to give Cena a run for his money on what she can lift. OK, maybe not a run for his money cause that guy can lift, but a lot more work goes into that rack attack than you may actually think!
