Wrestlemania is upon us and the biggest Granddaddy of them all is Sunday April 2nd 2016. This year has an eleven match card in total, with seven matches airing on the live portion of the PPV.
Wrestlemania has come a long way since 1985 and closed circuit. Let’s take a look at this year’s card.
The kickoff starts at 6 PM and airs on USA. The kickoff section of the show will have three matches to launch and hype up the live PPV. The first bout is the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The Big Show has won it last year and threw out Damien Mizdow to win it. Could history repeat itself? The rumor and scuttlebutt is that Cesaro is the surprise entrant, and returning to enter the fray. He too is a former winner from the inaugural version of the Battle Royal; from two years ago. Could Cesaro repeat?
The entrants noted are as follows for the battle royal: The Ascension’s Konnor and Viktor. R-Truth and Goldust will appear. The Big Show and Kane are also entrants, and the most largest and heavy favorites; outside of Mark Henry. Damien Sandow, Jack Swagger, Darren Young, Fandango, and Tyler Breeze are also other entrants. The last remaining combatants are all four members of the Social Outcast: Adam Rose, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas and the leader in Heath Slater.
The next two kickoff matches are tag team competition respectively. The two teams of five divas in a 10-woman tag are featured. The Total Divas cast of Natalya, Brie Bella, Paige, Eva Marie (the surprise partner) and Alicia Foxx will wrestle Team BAD & Blonde. Team BB is: Lana, Summer Rae, Tamina, Naomi and Emma from NXT. Realistically, it would be an interesting swerve to see Natalya heel and turn sides. She has hints of blonde hair, and always aspired to be taken seriously, and be Divas champion. So, ergo; what is more important to her? On one hand, you have the Total Divas and perks; or winning titles and taking names?
The third and final kickoff bout should realistically be on the live PPV card and has seeds for a bigger, larger feud and for the titles someday. The Dudley’s, Bubba Ray and D-Von will go against Jimmy and Jey, the Uso’s. It would be an interesting segues to have Spike Dudley appear to run in interference; and then as a counter; have Rikishi- the WWE Legend and Hall of Famer thwart the opposing offense.
In live event action, Ryback will try to win the United States title versus current champion Kalisto. All three New Day members, Kofi, Big E and Xavier Woods will wrestle the entire League of Nations in a four on three handicap match. The League will have Sheamus, Wade Barrett, Alberto Del Rio and Rusev of their faction.
In singles competition, we have AJ Styles and Chris Jericho in what will be a block-buster, match of the year candidate. The Intercontinental title will be up for grabs when seven men compete in a ladder match. Kevin Owens will defend his title against Zach Ryder, Sin Cara, Dolph Ziggler, Sami Zayn, The Miz and lastly, Stardust.
In the other title matches, the Divas title will be contested in a triple threat ladder match. Charlotte will defend her title, accompanied by her father- Nature Boy, Ric Flair. Her opponents are former allies and former NXT Horsewomen, in Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. Wouldn’t it be ironic twists to have Bayley appear, and the last of the four Horsewomen have some sort of effect on the outcome of this match?
The last three matches are the feature bouts of the evening. The Undertaker again puts his legacy on the line; and is in jeopardy and peril if he loses to his opponent. However, Shane McMahon will be gutsy as ever in his first return match, albeit at Wrestlemania but in UT’s “house”; Hell in the Cell. The Chairman, Mr. McMahon decreed it would be Undertaker’s last Mania, if he didn’t win. If Shane wins; he will control Monday Night RAW. The rumors are abundant that the Bullet Club’s Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows will appear. Could they aid Shane McMahon in his quest to win; and a heel turn all along is imminent from Shane?
In a no-hold barred fight and with weapons and violence galore will bring Brock Lesnar to conquer his opponent, in Dean Ambrose. Will the Beast defeat, sleep, conquer and repeat? Will Lesnar take the Lunatic Fringe to Suplex City? Furthermore, we haven’t seen the last of Bray Wyatt and his Family with the prior altercations to Brock Lesnar. Could their be some interference in this bout and help Dean win?
Lastly, the WWE Championship is the all the marbles match. Former champion Roman Reigns has clawed back and earned his title shot, against current champion and the COO of WWE, Triple H. In a twist, Dean Ambrose who also wants the title, and realizes Roman is competition to him; will be a heel turn by Ambrose.
