Well folks, here we are. The go-home Raw is over (it was a tad underwhelming, at best), and we’re now 5 days from WrestleMania 30.
In my regular Raw Revisited column a few weeks back, I referred to it as Wrestle-MEH-nia, but I’ve since changed my tune slightly. The build for some of the matches has been better than most, with John Cena vs Bray Wyatt coming completely out of left-field to surprise us all as a candidate for match of the night!
That’s not to say that the other matches won’t be good, I just think that nobody expected anything out of Cena/Wyatt, and it’s quickly become compelling, with Cena really playing the part of the scared guy quite well. Sure, he’s probably going to “overcome the odds”, beat Wyatt and keep his legacy intact, but I think we can all agree that that’s the least favourable option!
But we’re not here to talk about Cena and Wyatt, we’re here to talk about HHH vs Bryan.
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve talked about the history and the build to the match, and now that the dust has settled and it’s all over except the match itself, it’s time to talk predictions. What follows is a list of predictions from our über-talented collection of writers who are all so good, it makes me want to be better all the time! Let’s start with my predictions first:
Gary’s Prediction
“For me, there’s only one possible outcome…and that’s Daniel Bryan winning both matches. The story writes itself here, which is good, since creative never seem to put much effort into it!
In the last 8 months, we’ve seen Daniel Bryan reach greatness so many times, only to have it pulled away from him. Now they (WWE) have a chance to make this journey worth it for Daniel and the fans that have so staunchly supported him all this time. And if you want to have 70+ thousand people chanting “YES!” at the end of the night, this is, by far and away, the only option!
There are other ways to go about it, but in terms of great storytelling, having Daniel Bryan go into his match with Triple H injured, win it, and then beat both Randy Orton and Batista in the triple-threat match solidifies D-Bry as a main-eventer for years to come.
The only thing standing in the way is HHH’s ego!”
Davie (Woop-Woop)’s Prediction
“Looking at the feud between Daniel Bryan and Triple H, I want to be optimistic that Daniel Bryan will prevail and go on to the main-event. I do see him winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30 and closing the show with 70,000+ fans chanting “YES!”, however, I have a horrible feeling that the WWE may be playing with the fans’ hopes by giving Bryan a chance to main-event.
If the rumours are true about Vince returning after ‘Mania, I think there’s a slight possibility that HHH could defeat Daniel Bryan and then go on to win the championship. If they did that, then it would give Vince the perfect opportunity to return, take the power of the company back and use Daniel Bryan to take The Authority down, possibly at SummerSlam.
My heart says Daniel Bryan will win, but my head says possibly Triple H.”
Grant’s Prediction
“This match has the potential to steal the show at WrestleMania. Daniel Bryan has been on fire, HHH is still good enough to put on a show, and the crowd will be heavily invested in the outcome, given the bearing it has on the main-event. I would expect a big show of power from “The Game” early, followed by a few false finishes, and a Pedigree before Bryan starts a comeback. Bryan to win an epic match with HHH, but leaving injured ahead of the main-event.”
Duckman’s Prediction
“A great match between them, with HHH dominating the offence and Bryan getting a few little fightback moments throughout. Eventually Bryan makes his big comeback, crowd are going nuts. Steph gets involved and it looks like HHH has the match won, DB with a roll up out of nowhere to steal the pin. HHH destroys DB after the match – lots of concern he won’t make it to the main-event later.”
George’s Prediction
“I gave up on WWE a long time ago after their constant fucking with Daniel Bryan. For the last year or more, he’s been the most over guy on the roster, yet they refuse to give the fans what they want – Bryan as champion.
Let’s make something perfectly clear. This story should end with Bryan not only getting one over on Haitch-Ah and his pre-op transsexual wife, but going on to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However…we’re only getting this match because CM Punk (quite rightly in my opinion) told WWE to shove it. If Punk hadn’t done that, we wouldn’t be getting this match. It’s that simple.
The only way this has to go is with Bryan winning. Decisively. He should then go on to the main-event and become WWE World Champion. Do I see that happening? The honest answer is – I don’t know. Bryan could beat Haitch-Ah, but then Haitch-Ah would probably still shaft Bryan in the triple-threat. My heart says Bryan wins. My head says Haitch-Ah.”
Adam OB’s Prediction
“I’m really looking forward to this match. I know we can all make our jokes about Triple H burying people left, right and centre, but seeing him wrestle an up-and-comer like Daniel Bryan (at WrestleMania no less) is going to be great. Not to mention the strong possibility that Bryan could win!
It does feel like a long time coming for this rivalry, and I fully expect them to make the right decision by giving Daniel Bryan the victory here. It just makes sense for Bryan to finally get revenge after what happened at SummerSlam last August. Triple H put him down and Orton took his title, and now Bryan is going to put Triple H down and take Orton’s title. Payback’s a bitch!
Even without the fact that the triple-threat match would be a million times more worthwhile with Bryan’s inclusion, Triple H just doesn’t need the win here. I’m hoping that this whole ordeal has been for Triple H to finally “pass the torch” to someone before he completely focuses on the corporate aspect of his job, and if there’s anyone to pass it to, it’s Daniel Bryan.”
Conclusion
It seems like we have a general consensus on this one.
People are concerned about HHH, as well they should be given his track record, but I’m choosing to be positive and think that, because he’s in a position of power, he’ll do the right thing and let Daniel Bryan have his WrestleMania moment. Let’s hope I’m not proved wrong!
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention H and Stephanie’s totally awesome self-indulgent and selective video package about how Triple H has “destroyed all your heroes”. It was top class heel work and I’m loving this side of HHH and Stephanie. They have a clear, defined role and they’re both playing it to perfection.
And also, massive kudos to HHH on his Ziggleresque selling of Daniel Bryan’s assault at the end of Raw this week. I don’t compliment the man often, but he deserves it for the last couple of weeks. Let’s hope he doesn’t undo it all at WrestleMania by being himself again!
Overall, I’m very excited about WrestleMania. I’ll be watching on the WWE Network, so let’s hope there are no technical hiccups, because not only will I be enraged, but it’ll set a bad precedent for the Network going forward, which could make fans and current subscribers worry about future events.
Let’s hope that it goes off with minimal glitches. Stay tuned to my WrestleMania Revisited article next Tuesday to hear all about it. Raw Revisited will be back on the map again next week for the post-Mania Raw, which is sure to be a good one!
