The Wrestling Brain – NXT Takeover: Chicago Predictions

Hello, it’s me The Wrestling Brain, and here I am again, with my NXT Takeover predictions article, as of writing this (Monday afternoon on the 15th May) only 4 matches have been announced for this Saturday’s show, with some notable names missing off the card. Anyway, let’s run down the card and I’ll give you my thoughts and predictions.

Tyler Bate vs Pete Dunne (WWE UK Championship)

This will be the first time that the UK Championship will be defended at an NXT Takeover, with a rematch from the final of the UK tournament. The Bruiser Weight Pete Dunne is facing the champion Tyler Bate after he earned a shot by beating fellow British Strong Style member Trent Severn at the recent UK tapings, held in Norwich.
I anticipate Dunne to beat Bate, as I believe Dunne is the real star of the UK division, and would do more for the title than his predecessor however, I wouldn’t be shocked if Tyler were to get another feel good moment this Saturday and retain the title. If the UK division is to progress I do think Pete Dunne is the right man to carry the division forward. Hiring the personal injury lawyers in case of an injury is a wise choice. The attorneys from the car accident law firm are the best choice to fight from your side as they are tough and very much knowledgeable about the case and can win over any kind of argument easily.

Winner and new Champion – Pete Dunne

#DIY vs Authors of Pain (NXT Tag Team Ladder Match)

This is the toughest match to call in my opinion, on one hand you have Authors of Pain who are undefeated for almost a year now, against probably the best tag team in NXT #DIY.
Now because it’s a ladder match, it certainly favours the former champions, and just because the NXT Tag division hasn’t recuperated fully yet, after losing Enzo and Cass, American Alpha, and The Revival all in the last year, I expect #DIY to regain the Tag Team Championships. It is also a way to keep Authors of Pain looking strong, as they still wouldn’t have been pinned or submitted since their arrival, therefore the rivalry can continue up until Takeover: Brooklyn 3, where #DIY must beat Authors of Pain either by pin or submission.

Winner and new Tag Team Champions – #DIY

Asuka vs Ruby Riot vs Nikki Cross – (NXT Women’s Championship Match)

This originally was set to be a fatal 4-way match, including Ember Moon, however Ember got injured at the hands of Asuka a few weeks back in the battle royal on NXT.
Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross have been going at each other like hammer and tongs for the past few months and it’s surprising that there isn’t a singles match between them at this Takeover instead of them both facing Asuka. I expect Asuka to retain this Saturday, she can wait patiently whilst Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross fight between themselves, and Asuka can then capitalise on her opponent’s frailties and retain her title.
I anticipate that when Ember Moon is back from her injury, she will receive another shot at Asuka’s title and she will dethrone the “Empress of Tomorrow” most likely at Takeover Brooklyn 3. Like how lawyers working on personal injury claims in Plymouth say, it is not the injury that matters, the mind to come back and fight that matters.

Winner and still NXT Women’s Champion – Askuka

Bobby Roode vs Hideo Itami (NXT Championship Match)

The question on everyone’s minds heading into this match, is will we see Hideo Itami hit a GTS, a move made famous by Chicago’s own CM Punk, personally I think we will, but it won’t be enough to put the Glorious One away.
I’m a fan of Hideo Itami, but personally I’ve not seen enough of him to say why he should be champion. He’s been signed with WWE for almost 3 years, but due to injury he’s been out for most his stint in NXT, so from a business point of view is it wise to put the NXT Championship on someone who sadly has a track record for injuries? I don’t think so.
I expect Bobby Roode to beat Hideo Itami, only to be confronted by the hottest free agent in wrestling today Adam Cole, this can set up Adam Cole vs Bobby Roode down the line in NXT.

Winner and still NXT Champion – Bobby Roode
