So with this weeks Raw showing the dominance of Braun Strowman, this weeks WWMD looks at Braun Strowman. Since debuting with a squash match against James Ellsworth, Strowman has gone on and improved week by week. Feuds with multiple wrestlers have shown what is he is capable of. So, lets look at the case for Braun Strowman winning the big one at WrestleMania.
He’s wanted by the fans
I’ve never known a wrestler be wanted by the fans as much as Strowman. When he’s not on Raw, people aren’t happy. When he is on Raw, the people cheer, the internet smiles and Braun is getting to show off who Braun is. His work with The Miz helped solidfy Strowman’s posistion and I credit The Miz a lot for that. His facial reactions upon seeing Strowman and the crowds reaction shows that Strowman is the real deal. How dominant he was at the Elimination Chamber PPV shows that the crowd wants him.
Raw needs a (regular) defending champion
Raw (and its ratings) are hurt by no champion being on the show reguarly. In the pre-Lesnar era, the title was defended regularly on Raw. When Kevin Owens held the belt and defended it, it added that “something” to Raw. It’s nearly been a full calendar year since his reign ended (March 5th) and since that time it was held by Goldberg for a month and then Lesnar. Raw needs its Champion and it needs its Championship defended. Without it, there is no major draw into the show for casual fans.
Pinning Brock Lesnar would catapult him to the top
Brock Lesnar needs to be pinned at some point. He will ultimately lose the title. Strowman is going to be around for years to come, and pinning Lesnar at WrestleMania will help solidfy his posistion in WWE. Lesnar isn’t going to be around for years to come; it makes sense. Right now, Strowman is on fire. He is on the similar level of fire as Daniel Bryan and CM Punk before they should have got their super pushes. Ideally, Lesnar would be clean pinned by Strowman, but any way of getting the title from Lesnar to Strowman would cement his place on the WWE landscape. He could easily be inserted into the mach and make it a triple threat and by pinning Reigns, it “protects” Lesnar also.
It gives Roman Reigns the chance to turn heel
I nearly didn’t put this down as a reason, but it makes sense. Reigns is being pushed to us and we aren’t happy with him as a good guy. We want Strowman as the good guy. If WWE Creative want Reigns as champion, then let him chase Strowman and get the belt from him later down the line. This gives chance (and time) for Reigns to turn heel and embrace the WWE fans as a bad guy. WWE fans don’t want him as good guy – listen to the crowd at pretty much live event or TV taping and you’ll know this. He’s not the big merchandise seller either, so it shouldn’t hurt WWE financially either.
Closing thoughts
Braun Strowman needs to be holding the title. He is currently on fire in the WWE and would make a solid choice to be The Guy on Raw. The million dollar question is will Vince McMahon pass on another talent who is at full steam again? Or will he take a chance on Braun?
