In this week’s column I’m going to take a look at the upcoming Clash of Champions, the first Raw brand Pay Per View. We’ll be looking at key points of some of the matches announced and see what should go down on Sunday night to make it a truely memorable Clash of Champions. Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
Kevin Owens needs to beat Seth Rollins
Rollins is now playing the good guy and the good guys need to chase. Similarly, it frees his character up a lot more and gives Owens different things he can be doing to get the win – he could get the ref distracted, low blow when no-ones looking or even more interference from Triple H. Either way there is no way that Owens’ reign should be a short one – you can bet big that Owens retains.
Chris Jericho gives Sami Zayn his gift
Jericho vs Zayn could be an amazing match. Both are fantastic wrestlers, can play to the crowd and Zayn is starting to get some steam. The only logical thing I can think of is Jericho should put over Zayn in the ring – it won’t harm Jericho at all and will do wonders for Zayn. I can see there being a long build for Zayn to eventually leading to a rematch against Kevin Owens for the title. Bet your drooling as much as I am at the thought of that!
Cesaro beats Sheamus…..and leaves Raw
I honestly don’t understand how this Best of 7 has been booked. Yes, everyone knew it would boil down to the final match and that it would be on Pay Per View, but the booking for it has been crazy. Having Cesaro go 3-0 down, get “injured” and then win 3 on in a row just isn’t believable and has no realism in it at all. Seriously, it makes no sense. WWE Creative, what is it exactly your thoughts on this?! I would honestly smile from ear to ear if Cesaro gets the win and walks out of the arena into a car with Jack Swagger in it and they drive off to SmackDown, leading to a Mick Foley didn’t value me promo. Then he can feud with AJ Styles and have a gazillion Match of the Year candidates.
Rusev destroys Reigns
Right now Rusev is in a good place – becoming more of the Russian/Bulgarian brute we remember fondly, the Rusev-Lana interactions are back and believable again and, well, everyone hates Reigns. Rusev needs to be dominant against Reigns to really solidify himself and to get a lot of credibility back to his character. Having Reigns tap out to the accolade would do this in seconds, literally. If WWE are insistent on pushing Reigns as a good guy (and for the crowd to be behind him), they have to start from the ground up.
Nia Jax appears twice
Nia Jax vs Alicia Fox is the once in a life time match we’ll get on Sunday night and thank god it’s only once. I fully expect Nia to decisively beat Fox in their match, but also to appear in the triple threat match for the Women’s Title. Why? No-one in that match should be pinned by anyone else in the match – there’s no need for it and it could make them look weak. Instead, have Jax interfere in the match by taking out Charlotte on her way to the ring, before Banks and Bayley make the save. This means Jax looks like a credible threat, Banks and Bayley have to work together to make the save and Charlotte doesn’t have to defend her title, giving her even more credibility as a heel.
