This week will be looking at the different matches coming up at this weekends Money in the Bank PPV. Today the spotlight will be on the WWE Championship match between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton. The graphic below is courtesy of WWE.com.
The Build Up
At Backlash we saw the impossible becoming possible. The ultimate underdog pinning the champion. No-one would have said three months ago Jinder Mahal would be champion. Sammartino, Warrior, The Rock and now Mahal. It’s not just winning SmackDown’s primary title, but its the lineage of the title as well. This is why it was a shock to the system and a shock which was needed. It goes to show that WWE can be unpredictable. It goes to show you need to watch live. Arguably, only they made the same ideas with Raw then WWE ratings wouldn’t be so low.
What would happen if Jinder Mahal retained?
No surprises if he retains at all. Not only would it hurt the efforts of WWE in India, but it would hurt Mahal as a wrestler. Everyone hates the phrase transistional champion, but that’s what he’d be. He needs to retain the title in a hard fought wrestling match, a slobberknocker for the ages. If he comes out with The Singh Brothers, they need to be ejected straight away. All things considered, a clean loss for Orton in his home town will go some way to solidifying Mahal as a heel.
What would happen if Randy Orton won?
I’d be severely disappointed. Randy needs to starting putting over talent and making them look good. Right now Orton is in a position in his career where he does need titles or wins. New talent needs to be able to rise to the top and this should be Orton’s job right now. Therefore, Orton needs to lose. With Orton winning back the title, it hurts WWE and the SmackDown roster.
How should it be booked?
Ultimately only a strong win for Mahal will do. He needs to win, he needs to win clean, win strong and win hard. Nothing but a dominant display will do. I’m not thinking Lesnar-Orton dominant, but your getting the picture. If Orton wins, or if its a cheap match then everyone gets hurt and impacted. For this reason there is one winner and one winner only I want and WWE need – Jinder Mahal.
