So in this series of WWMD’s, we look at potential returners to WWE, what impact they could have, what they could do and what talent they could help get over. We’ll also have a look at their run in WWE, starting at the Rumble and culminating in a match at WrestleMania. So, with that in mind, let’s get looking at today’s returner : The Hardy Boyz.
What have they done in the past?
Everything. I would put them in Tag Team folk lore up with The Dudley Boyz. Ladder Matches, TLC Matches, Steel Cage Matches – the only gimmick match they haven’t been a part of is a Hell in a Cell. As single wrestlers they have done it all too – WWE Championships, main eventing PPVs – you name it. They’ve had a mixture of storylines from the good (anything to do with the Dudleys and Edge and Christian) to the bad (Jeff being found unconscious before a PPV). What they have been, and will carry on to be, is a staple of any wrestling promotion.
What impact could they have?
It could be massive. If they debuted at the Rumble with their Brother Nero and Broken Matt Hardy gimmick, it would send shock waves. If they debuted as old school Hardy Boyz, shock waves would still be felt. It would be on par with the surprise return of The Dudley Boyz last year, or even Shane McMahon this year. Similarly, if they work as a pair the impact on the Tag Division would be huge. Or in singles competition they could be a force to be reckoned with.
Who could they work with?
This is where the fun begins. There are a lot of characters that a Broken Matt Hardy could be amazing with and my number 1 choice is Bray Wyatt. The two can speak amazingly on the mic and I’d just love to watch them argue with each other. Hardy would have back up from Brother Nero to help him out to help with the numbers too. Similarly, Brother Nero vs Luke Harper could really put him over as a talent. The Wyatt’s had a lot of traction when they debuted, which has fizzled out now. Maybe they could DELETE those memories.
