So in this series of WWMD’s, we look at potential returners to WWE, what impact they could have, what they could do and what talent they could help get over. We’ll also have a look at their run in WWE, starting at the Rumble and culminating in a match at WrestleMania. So, with that in mind, let’s get looking at today’s returner : Kurt Angle.
What have they done in the past?
Pretty much everything and anything. King of the Ring, WWE Grandslam championships – the only thing he hasn’t won is the Royal Rumble itself. He even won his Olympic Gold whilst having a broken neck! When he as apart of TNA, he won multiple titles and had a large number of really good matches and put over a lot of wrestlers. Kurt Angle has had an amazing career and has one good run left in him. One good run before taking his rightful place in the Hall of Fame.
What impact could they have?
Kurt Angle could have a good match with anyone on the WWE roster. He excels in putting on amazing matches, whether against seasoned veterans or characters who rarely wrestle. He can talk on the mic and work the crowd as both as a heel or a face. His promos with a young John Cena really helped put over his character. WWE has a lot of talent on the radar and on the cusp of getting over – Kurt Angle is the man to light the fuse.
Who could they work with?
For me, he’s got to work with lower card talent and put them over. Angle is in an amazing posistion – whatever he does, it won’t tarnish his legacy. I’ve previously written about some work with Mojo Rawley he could do, but there are other options. He could even reform Team Angle with Shelton Benjamin. They could then put over different tag teams, similar to what The Dudley Boys did on Raw. Between the Rumble and WrestleMania I’d see Angle involved with as many different wrestlers as possible. Let him work his magic with them. Then, at WrestleMania, let him wrestle his final match, before heading into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.
